DESCRIPTION:Join the Rachel Corrie Foundation for Peace and Justice (RCF)\, Art Forces\, and the Olympia-Rafah Solidarity Mural Project (ORSMP)\, during Olympia Arts Walk weekend for our Social Justice Block Party! \nOn Friday evening\, we’ll be in front of the Olympia-Rafah Solidarity Mural at Capitol Way N. and State Ave. Our program\, 6-8 pm\, will reflect on how art and creative expression serve as catalysts of cultural resistance and resilience in response to urgent issues facing our community. From US immigrant families to Palestinians trapped in the assault on Gaza\, we’ll share words\, images\, music\, and dance that resist cultural erasure and build solidarity across movements. Local organizations will table throughout the evening\, sharing resources and opportunities for taking action. \nOn Saturday\, 12:00-6:00 p.m.\, RCF will host a crafts market with vendors from Olympia. Palestinian olive oil and crafts will also be available for purchase. \nVolunteers needed! This … Continue reading Fall Arts Walk Social Justice Party \n\n\n\n\n  \nJoin the Rachel Corrie Foundation for Peace and Justice (RCF)\, Art Forces\, the Olympia-Rafah Solidarity Mural Project (ORSMP)\, during Arts Walk weekend for another social justice block party! This community gathering will be held in front of the Olympia-Rafah Solidarity Mural\, October 4th & 5th\, from 6-10pm Friday the 4th and 12-6pm Saturday the 5th. \n  \nOn Friday and Saturday\, both days of Arts Walk\, RCF will be exhibiting original artworks documenting the experiences of Palestinian youth across the decades.  This special collection includes: \n\nOriginal art created by young people in the West Bank and Gaza. These works were made possible by Wejdan Diab\, a former teacher at the Mira Kindergarten in Gaza City\, the first area targeted by Israeli forces after October 7.\nShoshana Cohen’s A Generation of Solidarity\, a photo exhibition capturing the day-to-day lives of youth living under occupation in the West Bank during the 1980s.\nImages from the Palestinian Cultural Palace\, one of RCF’s Gaza projects.\n\n  \nThroughout Arts Walk weekend\, Art Forces will also be showcasing their digital exhibition\, Art for Gaza\, featuring artists from Palestine and across the country.  All the artwork will be for sale\, with proceeds benefiting the Middle East Children’s Alliance (MECA). This digital exhibition will be available to the public between October 3rd and mid-November. Please visit their website for more information. \n  \nOn Friday\, in front of the Mural\, please also considering joining us for: \n\n A cultural presentation on Every Child Matters by Dakota Case from the Water Warriors Canoe Society.\nA vigil for Ayşenur Ezgi Eygi\, a local Turkish-American student activist who was shot and killed by the Israeli military in the West Bank on September 6\, 2024.\nSpeakers\, kids activities\, music\, and more!\n\n  \nArtisan olive oil from Canaan Palestine and Palestinian crafts will be available for purchase. \nWe will be announcing additional details soon\, so please stay tuned for more information. A photo exhibit from RCF’s partners at the Palestinian Cultural Palace – a cultural\, developmental\, and social gathering place for youth in Gaza that aims to maintain Palestinian cultural heritage – and new elements of “Olympia’s Hidden Histories\,” a project launched in fall 2022\, will also be featured. \nWe’ll be selling our beautiful Palestinian embroidery\, handcrafted olive tree wood carvings\, Middle-Eastern jewelry and\, also\, artisan olive oil products from Canaan Palestine. \nWatch for further details\, coming soon.
