SUMMARY:He Never Dies: The Films of Kalil Haddad (18+)
DESCRIPTION:He Never Dies: The Films of Kalil Haddad (18+) \nKalil Haddad\, 2020-2025\, Canada\, 70m\, English \nNorthwest Film Forum is excited to present the Seattle debut of the work of Toronto-based filmmaker Kalil Haddad. HE NEVER DIES: THE FILMS OF KALIL HADDAD collects six of Haddad’s short films\, each a display of his idiosyncratic and radical approach to the depiction and use of queer subjectivities in visual media. Seamlessly moving between narrative\, documentary\, and archival approaches to filmmaking\, Haddad’s films interrogate notions of desire and exploitation across lines of sexuality\, race\, and class in order to uncover often hidden truths about how we use and abuse those that we see\, but often do not know. \nCurated and presented by Kalil Haddad\, Tony Nguyen\, and Cole Wilder. \nFRI MAR 20: 7.30 PM \nSAT MAR 21: 4.30 PM \nSUN MAR 22: 4.30 PM\, 7.30 PM \nFRI MAR 27: 7.30 PM

SUMMARY:Movie: Ali: Fear Eats The Soul
DESCRIPTION:The wildly prolific German filmmaker Rainer Werner Fassbinder paid homage to his cinematic hero Douglas Sirk with this update of that filmmaker’s 1955 All That Heaven Allows. A lonely widow (Brigitte Mira) meets a much younger Arab worker (El Hedi ben Salem) in a bar during a rainstorm. They fall in love\, to their own surprise—and to the outright shock of their families\, colleagues\, and drinking buddies. In Ali: Fear Eats the Soul\, Fassbinder expertly wields the emotional power of classic Hollywood melodrama to expose the racial tensions underlying contemporary German culture. \n  \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nSun Nov 30: 4.30pm PDT\, 7.30pm PDT

SUMMARY:Palestine Cinema Days: Movie: Divine Intervention
DESCRIPTION:Palestine Cinema Days: Divine Intervention\nSun Nov 02: 7.00pm PDT \nFree Admission! Please RSVP here. \nAbout\n(Elia Suleiman\, Palestine & France\, 2002\, 92min\, in Arabic\, English\, and Arabic\, Hebrew\, and English with English subtitles) \nIn Nazareth\, under a guise of banal normalcy\, the town embraces folly. \nUnder pressure from his failing business\, a man takes matters into his own hands and tries to break a chain reaction of petty feuds. He breaks down himself. The man is E.S. father. \nA love story takes place between a Palestinian man living in Jerusalem and a Palestinian woman from Ramallah. The man  E.S.  shifts between his ailing father and his love life\, trying to keep both alive. \nBecause of the political situation\, the womans freedom of movement ends at the Israeli army checkpoint between the two cities. Barred from crossing\, the lovers intimate encounters take place on a deserted lot right beside the checkpoint. The lovers are unable to exempt reality from occupation. \nA complicity of solemn desire begins to generate violent repercussions and\, against the odds\, their angry hearts counter-attack with spasms of spectacular fantasy . \nPresented as a part of Palestine Cinema Days 2025 \nOn the somber anniversary of the Balfour Declaration\, observed on November 2nd\, and in an effort to amplify Palestinian voices\, we are screening Divine Intervention directed by Elia Suleiman at 7:00 p.m. at Northwest Film Forum. The screening is free of charge.

SUMMARY:SAFF Arab Film Club: Israel Palestine on Swedish TV
DESCRIPTION:When his father dies\, Dib\, his younger brother and their mother move away from their hometown Quneitra to Damascus. The mother’s despotic father reluctantly takes them in and tries to force the mother to remarry. Overwhelmed by the magic of the city\, Dib wants to discover everything and is full of dreams. His daily life is shaped by insults and punishments however. Dib grows up against a backdrop of the political upheavals of the 1950s (the end of the military dictatorship in Syria and the nationalization of the Suez Canal\, Nasser’s taking of power in Cairo\, Egyptian and Syrian unification in 1958) and loses his childish illusions in the face of such violence and brutality. The dreams of the city prove to be a nightmare. Mohammad Malas’ partly autobiographical debut film marked the transition to auteur cinema in Syria. \nAlso showing: \n\nSun Nov 02: 2.30pm PDT

SUMMARY:Cadence 2025 – my more-than-me [Hybrid event]
DESCRIPTION:Tapping into the collective unconscious\, this showcase excavates shared knowledge buried just below the surface. These films remind us that the roots of humanity and nature are intertwined. When pavement erases habitat and the evolutionary thread is lost\, we can weave poetry into a home\, recombine scattered lines\, and dream possible futures.\n*There is a Palestinian film maker included! – Come out and support!

SUMMARY:No Other Land (in person) - NWFF
DESCRIPTION:Nominated for Best Documentary Feature at the 2025 Academy Awards!  \nBasel Adra\, a young Palestinian activist from Masafer Yatta\, has been fighting his community’s mass expulsion by the Israeli occupation since childhood. Basel documents the gradual erasure of Masafer Yatta\, as soldiers destroy the homes of families – the largest single act of forced transfer ever carried out in the occupied West Bank. He crosses paths with Yuval\, an Israeli journalist who joins his struggle\, and for over half a decade they fight against the expulsion while growing closer. Their complex bond is haunted by the extreme inequality between them: Basel\, living under a brutal military occupation\, and Yuval\, unrestricted and free. This film\, by a Palestinian-Israeli collective of four young activists\, was co-created during the darkest\, most terrifying times in the region\, as an act of creative resistance to Apartheid and a search for a path towards equality and justice. \nSynopsis courtesy of mTuckman Media \nSun Mar 02: 4.00pm PDT
