SUMMARY:Hotter Than Egypt
DESCRIPTION:ACT – A CONTEMPORARY THEATRE\nin association with\nMARIN THEATRE COMPANY\npresents \nHotter Than Egypt\nDates: January 28-February 20\, 2022\nRun time: TBD\nLocation: Allen Theatre \nACT proudly presents Hotter than Egypt\, its 50th world premiere by Core Company member and Seattle playwright Yussef El Guindi in a co-production with the Marin Theatre Company in California. Hotter than Egypt is a poignant play about personal revelation. Paul and Jean\, an American couple\, travel to Cairo for their 24th wedding anniversary. Long-dormant troubles within the marriage start to percolate\, and their two Egyptian tour guides\, newly engaged Maha and Seif\, become drawn into the crisis. This dramedy set in the aftermath of the Egyptian revolution explores the uneven power dynamics between these Western tourists and the locals. Dreams and relationships are put to the test when old connections lead to new temptations. Hotter than Egypt\, recently workshopped through the ACT Local program\, is a vivid new work from the acclaimed author of Threesome\, Ramayana\, and People of the Book.

SUMMARY:Left on Yellow Brick Road
DESCRIPTION:Left on Yellow Brick Road\nDates: February 13–February 16\, 2020\nRun time: TBD\nLocation: Lalie Theatre \nSherif Amin is the first Egyptian to perform a solo show at ACT. \nWhen a boy from Egypt unexpectedly finds himself in the Land of Oz\, he travels to a place past the Emerald City where he stays. Soon he starts to wonder\, is it better to stay in Oz or find his way back? \nSherif Amin explores the ugly side of love and heartbreak through the technicolored glasses of an American classic. Left on Yellow Brick Road digs deep into cyclical patterns we try to hide when we lose ourselves and our sense of home. \nThis performance will be double billed with Jasmine Joshua’s Bread Crumbs.

SUMMARY:People of The Book - by Yussef El Guindi
DESCRIPTION:Yussef El-Guindi is one of the most talented playwrights in the country today\, and he happens to live in Seattle. He earned a Stranger Genius Award in 2015\, shortly after the premiere of his play Threesome\, about an Egyptian American couple who set out to spice up their sex life by inviting an absolute doofus of a white guy into their bedroom.  El Guindi’s new play\, People of the Book\, involves more sexual jealousy across cultural traditions\, as well as a soldier-turned-writer whose massive success with a memoir inspires jealousy from some old high school friends. – Stranger \nPeople of the Book is a very personal play that speaks to much larger national themes.  It’s a gripping drama that is inspired by Euripedes’ Medea and crackles with the kind of contemporary wit that we have come to love about Yussef’s writing.  – Director\, John Langs \nPlease check the Act Theatre’s website for details regarding showtimes and ticket prices. \n  \n
