SUMMARY:From Haiti 2 Palestine [Virtual] Teach In
DESCRIPTION:VIRTUAL TEACH IN! SAVE THE DATE! On Sunday March 3rd we are co-hosting a teach in featuring speakers from @samidounseattle and @haitiaction to bring to light the dire situation in Haiti right now. \nOn February 29th\, 2004 democratically elected president Jean Bertrand Aristide was kidnapped and flown out of Haiti and into exile by US forces. Since\, the country has had an array of US backed governments that have resulted in the crisis Haitians are living today. \nIn October 2023\, around the same time that the Pal3stinian resistance breached the wall in Gaza\, the UN approved a US backed Kenyan led 12 month military mission to “bring peace” to Haiti. Yes\, the UN approved to fly Kenyan soldiers to Haiti to bring “stability”. \nThere’s plenty that Haiti and Pal3stine have in common and we want to bring that to the fore during this teach in\, especially during this important 20 year anniversary of the coup that took Aristide and the Fanmi Lavalas Party out of power. \nThe teach in will take place March 3rd over zoom from 11am – 12:30 pm pst. Please register at the link below! You will see the zoom information once you complete the short form 🙏🏽 \ntinyurl.com/H2Pteachin \nWe will start with a historical situationer for both Haiti and Palestine before listening to a discussion between organizers from Samidoun Prisoner Solidarity Network and the Haiti Action Committee. This teach in is intended to give you the context and information you need to help uplift the Haitian narrative and deepen your understanding about Palestine solidarity work. \nSee you there!

SUMMARY:Benefit for the Palestine Children's Relief Fund
DESCRIPTION:Announcing a benefit for the Palestine Children’s Relief Fund\n  \nIn this time of horror\, we watch Israel commit atrocities day after day\, seemingly without end\, against an entire society in Gaza. It is a dreadful feeling\, to feel powerless to do anything about this new Nakba.\n  \nHere’s one thing we will do: raise funds for humanitarian relief for the children of Gaza.\n  \nThe Palestine Children’s Relief Fund is a highly recommended humanitarian organization that is focusing specifically on the plight of Gazan children. It is well-known to those of us who are active regarding Palestine solidarity. You can look them up here.\n  \nWe are holding a benefit concert to contribute to this fund:\nDATE:             Saturday\, February 3\, 7:00 p.m.\nLOCATION:   Café Paloma\, 93 Yesler (Pioneer Square)\nADMISSION:   $20.00\nADVANCE RESERVATIONS NECESSARY\n  \nMusic will be performed by the House of Tarab\, a Seattle-based\, Arabic music ensemble that performs classic and traditional material from the golden era of Egyptian music. The group also performs music of the Levant (Jordan\, Lebanon\, Syria\, and Palestine)\, and the greater Middle East.\n  \n“Tarab” is an Arabic word that describes a state of emotional transformation and bliss when one is wholly absorbed in music. Musicians: Stephen Elaimy on oud\, David McGrath on ney\, Jane Hall on percussion.\n  \nRESERVATIONS: Café Paloma is a small place with only about a 35-seat capacity. You must call in and reserve a seat: 206 405 1920.\n  \nIT’S A BENEFIT\, SO EXPECT TO SPEND MONEY: We’re sorry\, but this event is not for the broke. The House of Tarab has generously decided to donate their share of the admission charge to the Palestine Children’s Relief Fund—and we will pass the hat in the course of the evening. And\, of course\, you’ll want to dine on the excellent fare offered by Café Paloma. (Note: if you can pay the admission charge with cash\, that helps out the restaurant.)\n  \nThere will be a Palestinian speaker from the Seattle branch of the solidarity organization Samidoun on hand to talk briefly about what is going on in Gaza.

As the Zionist-led\, US-backed assault on Palestine and the wider region continues\, we call upon people of conscience everywhere to organize rallies\, shutdowns\, and other actions in your cities and locales. \nBoth the political establishment and media in the imperial core are relying on the length of this genocidal campaign to tire us out and wear us down. But our movement for liberation has not waned\, and will only continue to grow stronger and amass more power with time. Until all our demands are met\, we will continue to shut it down and prevent business as usual from continuing. Against the wishes of Joe Biden\, Justin Trudeau\, and other Western imperialists funding and signing off on this genocide\, we will keep raising our voices loud and putting our bodies on the line. \nIn the words of the revolutionary Samah Idriss\, “If we abandon Palestine\, we abandon ourselves.” At this critical juncture for our movement\, it is our responsibility to raise the stakes and increase the momentum of all that we have built. The struggle continues — we’ll see you in the streets on February 4!

SUMMARY:PCC Cooking Class: Palestinian Levantine Table
DESCRIPTION:Bring the foods of Palestine\, Lebanon and Syria together learning to make Chef Hend’s deep-rooted family recipes. Make handmade Taboon\, a yeasted flatbread that is essential for the table. Build the spice combination to make Musakhan\, a flavorful chicken dish made to serve atop your taboon. For a bite of sweetness\, learn to make Atayef\, pillowy stuffed pancakes that are a delight to celebrate. This class is brimming with unique recipes and essential Middle Eastern ingredients to bring to your kitchen. \nWith dairy\, nuts\, and poultry. \nAbout the instructor: After cooking in Michelin Star restaurants and high volume catering events\, I made a “temporary” switch to teaching cooking classes. However\, the satisfaction and unique experience I received from teaching convinced me that this was my new culinary path. I am a graduate of the Le Cordon Bleu\, where I mainly focused on French and Western technique\, but I have deep roots in Middle-Eastern cuisine and an enthusiastic\, developed passion for Japanese cuisine. In my travels I seek out to learn something new\, and for me\, the more specific and obscure\, the better. My interests and abilities continue to range out further\, as long as I can do it\, I will teach it. \n\n\n  \n\nCOLUMBIA CITY PCC\n\n\nSaturday\, January 6\, 4:00 – 6:00 pm \nADD TO WAITING LIST  \n\n\n\nEDMONDS PCC\n\n\nMonday\, January 29\, 6:00 – 8:00 pm \nREGISTER FOR CLASS  \n\n\n\nGREEN LAKE VILLAGE PCC\n\n\nMonday\, January 22\, 6:00 – 8:00 pm \nREGISTER FOR CLASS  \n\n\n\nISSAQUAH PCC\n\n\nMonday\, February 12\, 6:00 – 8:00 pm \nREGISTER FOR CLASS  \n\n\n\nREDMOND PCC\n\n\nSunday\, January 21\, 4:00 – 6:00 pm \nREGISTER FOR CLASS

SUMMARY:Author Alice Rothchild: Old Enough to Know
DESCRIPTION:Tue 2/6 at 7pm\, Seward Park \nThird Place Books welcomes back author\, activist\, filmmaker\, and physician Alice Rothchild for her new book for young readers. \nBeing the new kid is always hard\, but try starting the year with a name like Mohammed Omar Mohammed Abu Srour\, with a homemade lunch of humus and za’atar. On top of that\, on the very first day of school\, a kid tells his older hijab-wearing sister to “go back where you came from.” Mohammed and his sister love their grandmother\, but she thinks her stories about life in Palestine will help them with their problems. What does Grandmother’s ancient history have to do with classroom bullies? She never learned to read and Mohammed can’t even find Palestine on a map. Feels like fourth grade’s going to last forever. \nRSVP here

SUMMARY:Sound Transit: Cut Ties to Genocide: Protest
DESCRIPTION:Siemens is the main contractor for the Euro-Asia Interconnector\, an underwater electric cable that will connect Israel’s illegal settlements in occupied Palestine to power grids in Europe.\nDue to its cooperation with the Zionist occupation\, Siemens has been placed on the international Boycott\, Divest\, and Sanctions (BDS) Movement’s list of targeted boycotts. This designation is a call to action–we will not allow our community institutions to be doing business with corporations that profit from Israeli apartheid!
