SUMMARY:Millennials are Killing Capitalism Live on YouTube
DESCRIPTION:In this episode organizers from Samidoun will join us. They will share updates from Palestinian prisoner conditions and the conditions of repression in Israeli military prisons. We will also talk to Samidoun about the repression they have faced as an organization\, and as individuals associated with the organization\, since October 7th. We will of course discuss the recent events at Sde Teiman which have caused a proliferation of mobilizations seeking to defend the ability of Israeli’s to use rape as a method of torture against Palestinian detainees. “Samidoun Palestinian Prisoner Solidarity Network joins the calls from Palestine to make 3 August — the 300th day of the ongoing genocide in Palestine — an international day of action for Gaza and the prisoners. We urge all Palestinian and Arab communities and organizations in exile and diaspora\, and all internationalist organizations and activists for Palestine\, to take action on Saturday\, August 3 for the liberation of over 9\,700 Palestinian prisoners in occupation prisons\, an end to the ongoing Zionist genocide in Gaza\, in support of the heroic Palestinian and regional resistance\, and for the liberation of Palestine from the river to the sea!” – https://samidoun.net/2024/07/take-act… To support Samidoun: https://samidoun.net/donate-page/

SUMMARY:300+ Days of Genocide: Rally at Westlake Park
DESCRIPTION:This week will mark 300 days since the beginning of Israel’s genocidal onslaught on Gaza. Throughout these 300 days\, a projected 186\,000+ Palestinians have been murdered by the Zionist entity\, the bombardment of the Gaza Strip has led to its complete destruction\, and thousands of Palestinians have been imprisoned or disappeared – in addition to the thousands already held in the illegitimate occupation jails. \nThe US government has shown that its commitment is to supporting Israel carry out a genocide. We the people must come out and show that our commitment is to the Palestinian struggle and is only getting stronger\, and that our fight for a free Palestine will never waver. Bring friends\, comrades\, signs\, love for our martyrs\, and above all – bring your readiness to keep fighting and carry our struggle forward. \nNone of us are free until we are all free. SUMMARY:Seffarine at Oregon Shakespeare Festival
DESCRIPTION:“gorgeous intersection of Spanish flamenco\, Arabic and Andalusian music\, Persian classical\, and jazz” -Bass Player Magazine\n\nThe sounds that stir the dry winds of Southern Spain and Morocco\, two countries separated by only a whisper of the Mediterranean\, are the musical DNA of a beautifully complex extended family linking North Africa and Europe.\n\nThe musicians of Seffarine\, soulful Moroccan singer Lamiae Naki and flamenco guitarist Nat Hulskamp\, supported by master musicians of diverse cultures\, embrace and extend this rich legacy. Their exciting performances masterfully combine explosive flamenco footwork\, exotic instrumentation and grooving basslines. These diverse backgrounds meld\, creating what SoundRoots describes as “an ear-caressing blend of sounds from Spain and North Africa\, spiced with a bit of fiery instrumentation and percussion.”\n\n“Seffarine’s music can melt the coldest hearts” -Chicago Reader

SUMMARY:Movie: Lyd
DESCRIPTION:Lyd is a feature-length\, speculative documentary that follows the rise and fall of Lyd (alternatively Lod\, as it is now called)\, a 5\,000-year-old metropolis that was a bustling Palestinian town\, until it was taken over by the state of Israel. As the film unfolds\, residents create a tapestry of the Palestinian experience of this city and exemplify the trauma left by the 1948 massacre and expulsion. Vivid animations envision an alternate reality where the same people live free from the trauma of the past and the violence of the present. Using never-before-seen archival footage of Israeli soldiers who carried out the massacre and expulsion\, the personified city explains that these events were so devastating that they fractured reality\, and now there are two Lyds — one occupied and one free. As the film cuts between fantastical and documentary realities\, it ultimately leaves the viewer questioning which future should prevail. \nLyd dares to ask the question: what would the city be like had the Israeli occupation of Lyd never happened? \n\n\nThu Aug 08: 7.00pm PDT\n\n\nWed Aug 14: 7.30pm PDT\n\n\nThu Aug 15: 7.30pm PDT\n\n\nFri Aug 16: 7.30pm PDT\n\n\nSat Aug 17: 4.30pm PDT\n\n\nSun Aug 18: 4.30pm PDT\, 7.30pm PDT

SUMMARY:Tinariwen at the Showbox
DESCRIPTION:The tale of Tinariwen begins with the story of its founding father\, Ibrahim Ag Alhabib. The son of a Tuareg rebel\, at the age of four Ibrahim witnessed his father’s execution at the hands of the government during the 1963 uprising in Mali. \nGrowing up in between the deserts and refugee camps of Algeria\, Ibrahim was regarded as a wanderer and a loner – he was nicknamed ‘Abaraybone’\, meaning ‘ragamuffin child’. One day\, he remembers\, he was watching a western at a makeshift desert cinema and was struck by a scene in which a cowboy plays a song on a guitar. Inspired\, he built his first guitar using an oil can\, a stick and a bicycle brake wire. He started to learn to play\, practising old Tuareg melodies\, modern Arabic pop tunes and the Malian blues music of Ali Farka Touré.

SUMMARY:Seattle Arab Film Festival: Love and Revolt
DESCRIPTION:Ten compelling shorts from a remarkable group of emerging and established filmmakers\n“Love & Revolt\,” the 5th edition of the Seattle Arab Film Festival (SAFF)\, is a celebration of the rebellious spirit of Arab stories despite the pain of oppression. \nTo address the horrifying injustices that continue to be inflicted on Palestinians in Gaza\, and the non-stop efforts to erase their narrative\, SAFF will be featuring films labeled “Made in Palestine\,” including An Orange from Jaffa\, recipient of the Grand Prize at the 2024 Clermont-Ferrand Film Festival and The Key\, which premiered at SXSW Film Festival. \nThe screenings will be divided in two sections – “Parallel Time” and “A Place Without A Door\,” both titles inspired by the work of the late Palestinian author Walid Daqqa – separated by a brief intermission. Each film program is a similar balance of themes: From Egypt to New York\, young people experiment with gender roles and their sexual desires despite gatekeepers\, while in Algeria and Morocco\, estranged families and angry couples are brought together by the sea. The lineup consists of a total of ten short films from the US and the Arab world\, both live-action and animation\, and featuring themes of love\, family and exile.

SUMMARY:Letter Writing to Palestinian Prisoners
DESCRIPTION:Join us at Cal Anderson Park near the Farmer’s Market 12pm – 3pm (drop in any time) to write letters to Palestinian prisoners incarcerated by the Zionist occupation. Given META repression of the Palestine movement and Samidoun\, our Instagram and FB accounts have been taken down. Spread the word for this event and follow us on Telegram! \nIn response to the call to make August 3rd\, the 300th day of the ongoing siege on Gaza\, International Day of Action for Gaza and the Prisoners\, we hope to come together in solidarity with the prisoners’ struggle. Zionist prisons are known for torture\, starvation\, and abuse\, and used by occupation forces in futile attempts to break the Palestinian spirit and the resistance\, but the Palestinian Prisoners’ Movement remains on the frontline of the liberation struggle. \nNo experience needed – bring yourself\, friends\, comrades\, and your belief that we will soon win a Free Palestine. \nLong live the Palestinian Resistance and Free Palestine!

\n\n\n\n\n\n\nThu Aug 15: 7.30pm PDT\n\n\nFri Aug 16: 7.30pm PDT\n\n\nSat Aug 17: 4.30pm PDT\n\n\nSun Aug 18: 4.30pm PDT\, 7.30pm PDT

\n\n\n\n\n\n\nSat Aug 17: 4.30pm PDT\n\n\nSun Aug 18: 4.30pm PDT\, 7.30pm PDT
