SUMMARY:Movie: Ali: Fear Eats The Soul
DESCRIPTION:The wildly prolific German filmmaker Rainer Werner Fassbinder paid homage to his cinematic hero Douglas Sirk with this update of that filmmaker’s 1955 All That Heaven Allows. A lonely widow (Brigitte Mira) meets a much younger Arab worker (El Hedi ben Salem) in a bar during a rainstorm. They fall in love\, to their own surprise—and to the outright shock of their families\, colleagues\, and drinking buddies. In Ali: Fear Eats the Soul\, Fassbinder expertly wields the emotional power of classic Hollywood melodrama to expose the racial tensions underlying contemporary German culture. \n  \n\n\n\n\nSat Nov 29: 7.30pm PDT\n\n\nSun Nov 30: 4.30pm PDT\, 7.30pm PDT

SUMMARY:America's Forever Wars in the Middle East" on US imperialism at the People’s Forum.
DESCRIPTION:Without understanding the imperialist system that underlies the ongoing drive for war\, and that has attempted to destroy the Palestinian people and those who stand with them\, we cannot understand how to confront it. Join popular educators from the Palestinian Youth Movement in a rigorous study of the history and present of US intervention in the Middle East to understand US imperialism\, Israel’s role within it\, and its consequences for working people in the US and around the world.   \n  \nFor nearly half a century\, the United States has been involved in endless wars in the Middle East that have claimed the lives of millions of people. These wars have ballooned the US’ military budget and lined the pockets of wealthy warmongerers as conditions for working people deteriorate. Over the same period\, the US government has financially\, politically\, and militarily backed Israel’s occupation and colonization of Palestine\, including through its full support for Israel’s genocide in Gaza. In turn\, people across the political spectrum have begun to question the US government’s continued commitment for a foreign policy predicated on endless war\, devastating interventions\, and unconditional support for Israel\, regardless of the administration in power. \nThis 4-part course from the Palestinian Youth Movement will study the history and present of US intervention in the Middle East to equip participants with a deeper understanding of US imperialism\, Israel’s role within it\, and its consequences for working people in the US and around the world. It seeks to illuminate how it is the imperialist system\, and not just the ideological positions or policies of any one politician in office\, that keeps America at war and invested in the destabilization of the Middle East. Without understanding the imperialist system that underlies the ongoing drive for war\, we cannot understand how to confront it. \nThis course is organized by the Palestinian Youth Movement (PYM)\, a grassroots\, international movement that organizes Palestinian and Arab youth to struggle for Palestinian liberation \nWHEN \nAmerica’s Forever Wars in the Middle East is a 4-part hybrid course from Dec. 2 – 11\, meeting on Tuesdays and Thursdays\, 6:30 – 8:30 PM ET. Here is the schedule: \n\nSession 1: Introduction to Imperialism: How Gaza Exposed America-First’s False Promises | December 2\, 6:30 – 8:30 PM ET\nSession 2: From Sovereign Nation to Client State: U.S. Imperialism in Egypt | December 4\, 6:30 – 8:30 PM ET\nSession 3: America’s War of Terror on Iraq| December 9\, 6:30 -8:30 PM ET\nSession 4: Imperialism and the Anti-War Struggle in the US | December 11\, 6:30 – 8:30 PM ET

SUMMARY:SZ Gallery’s 5th Persian Garden: First Friday Art Walk
DESCRIPTION:SZ Gallery’s 5th Persian Garden is an exhibit that tells culturally rich stories of Persian culture through contemporary and classically-influenced pieces. Monir & Mehdi Ghanbeigy from Iran have created multimedia artwork together since 1970\, combining Mehdi’s detailed work with Persian miniatures and painting\, Monir’s background in ceramics\, and their mutual love for the history of Persian art.\n.\nMonir and Mehdi began working together in Iran before they moved to England for further training at London and Canterbury College of Art. After returning to Iran in 1980\, they developed a novel style in ceramics and painting\, influenced by both modern art as well as the very rich traditions of Persian pottery and storybook miniatures. They have shown their art at numerous national and international exhibitions\, including the 2012 Venice Biennial\, and have taught for many years at several universities in Iran and in their private workshop. Their pieces are permanently on exhibit at the Contemporary Art Museum in Iran\, as well as several museums around the world.\n.\n#persian #art #paintings #persiangarden #szgallery#mercerisland

SUMMARY:Virtual Conversation with Wasim Said
DESCRIPTION:Join the People’s Center for Palestine on Saturday\, December 6th at 10am PT/1pm ET for a virtual conversation with Wasim Said\, speaking from Gaza\, whose book Witness to the Hellfire of Genocide was written after multiple displacements from his home in Beit Hanoun. His testimony offers an urgent account of life in Gaza under ongoing bombardment—an essential narrative for understanding the realities on the ground and the stakes of documenting genocide in real time. The translation was recently published in October 2025 by 1804 Books\, in collaboration with the People’s Center for Palestine and Liberated Texts. \n  \nThe event will also feature reflections from Thiago Ávila\, Fady Joudah\, Mousa Alsadah\, and Danya Al-Saleh\, who will discuss the book’s literary\, political\, and historical significance and the vital role of witnessing for long-term struggle.

SUMMARY:Movie: The Encampments
DESCRIPTION:THE ENCAMPMENTS follows student organizers at some of the world’s most prestigious universities as they take a historic stand against their institutions’ investments in the ongoing genocide in Gaza\, igniting one of the largest student movements in history which continues to have far-reaching effects on US and world policies today. \nFilmed on the ground and in real-time as these events were unfolding\, THE ENCAMPMENTS features detained student activist Mahmoud Khalil and takes viewers inside America’s student uprising with incredible intimacy and urgency. Professors\, whistleblowers from inside Ivy League administrations\, and student activists shed light on a moment that captivated the nation’s attention and continues to make headlines today. \n“What makes THE ENCAMPMENTS artistically triumphant is its sense of contemporary and historical detail\, owed to both footage shot by the filmmakers\, as well as by the protesters themselves. In the process\, co-directors Kei Pritsker and Michael T. Workman craft a work of cinema that’s as rigorously journalistic in its arguments as it is nakedly sentimental.” – IndieWire \n“This is more than a student protest—it’s a generational struggle for justice. Students have always led the charge for justice\, from the sit-ins of the Civil Rights Movement to the campus protests against South African apartheid. The encampments that started at Columbia are part of that legacy\, inspiring millions of people around the world. The film ensures the students in US and Gaza are heard\, their actions are remembered\, and the fight for Palestinian liberation continues.” – Macklemore \n“Khalil remains detained at an ICE facility in Louisiana amid a legal battle to prevent his deportation from the U.S. after the Trump administration ordered his removal… The legal challenge to Khalil might ultimately come down to the Supreme Court\, which would decide how far the secretary of state can determine whether a permanent resident can be removed for speech.” – Axios

SUMMARY:America's Forever Wars in the Middle East" on US imperialism at the People’s Forum
Here is the schedule: \n\nSession 3: America’s War of Terror on Iraq| December 9\, 6:30 -8:30 PM ET\nSession 4: Imperialism and the Anti-War Struggle in the US | December 11\, 6:30 – 8:30 PM ET

SUMMARY:Seattle Arts & Lectures Youth Poetry Reading
DESCRIPTION:Join us for a celebratory poetry reading featuring SAL’s talented Youth Poetry Fellows. This reading marks the end of the program\, and you are invited to come celebrate their genius with us!\n\n\nRegistration is not required\, but helps us anticipate audience size. If you’d like to RSVP\, please do so here! \nAbout SAL’s Youth Poetry Fellowship (YPF): \nThe Youth Poetry Fellowship serves a cohort of young writers committed to poetry\, performance\, civic and community engagement\, education\, and equity across the Puget Sound region. Over the course of the school year\, fellows meet regularly for workshops with the Youth Poetry Fellowship mentors. Fellows also have numerous public opportunities to share their voices\, leadership\, and love of Seattle throughout the course of the year. One of the fellows serves as the Youth Poet Laureate and writes a poetry collection published by Poetry NW Editions. \nAhsenti Alfedil (she/her) is a first-generation American of Ethio-Sudanese descent and a student at the Bush School. A multidisciplinary Piscean\, she moves fluidly between poetry\, acrylic/oil painting\, and movement—always led by curiosity and feeling. When not overwhelmed by her academic workload\, she finds joy in braiding hair\, spending hours adorning herself and loved ones in henna\, skating to her favorite playlists\, and research as a leisure activity. As a writer\, Ahsenti turns most often to poetry. Her work shows resistance to categorization because she follows her intrigue; the fleeting moments that spark inspiration to create. Through her writing\, she hopes to make space for those navigating layered identities\, vulnerability\, and for stories that make people feel seen in their most intricate and unspoken parts. \nNadia Najam is a senior at Liberty High School in Renton\, Washington. She finds joy in reading any good book she can get her hands on and spending time in nature. Through YPF\, Nadia hopes to grow more confident in sharing her writing with the world and to challenge herself to explore new themes and styles in her poetry. \nand more. \n
