SUMMARY:Movie: The Palestine Exception [Spokane]
DESCRIPTION:After years of right-wing assaults on higher education\, attacks took a new form in 2023 and 2024 that has been described as the new McCarthyism.  As students across the country organize protests against Israel’s war on Gaza\, decades-long taboos in academia around criticism of Israel–the “Palestine exception”–are shattered. This film features professors and students as they join calls for a ceasefire and divestment from companies that do business with Israel and face waves of crackdown from administrators\, the media\, the police and politicians.  Scholars from diverse disciplines explain what is at stake in these protests and why so many young people identify with the Palestinian cause. The documentary unfolds as a story of college campuses as sites of both rebellion and repression\, places where personal and collective histories converge in unexpected ways. \n\nFacebook Page: https://facebook.com/events/s/the-palestine-exception/647578521288742/?

SUMMARY:No Other Land (in person) - NWFF
DESCRIPTION:Nominated for Best Documentary Feature at the 2025 Academy Awards!  \nBasel Adra\, a young Palestinian activist from Masafer Yatta\, has been fighting his community’s mass expulsion by the Israeli occupation since childhood. Basel documents the gradual erasure of Masafer Yatta\, as soldiers destroy the homes of families – the largest single act of forced transfer ever carried out in the occupied West Bank. He crosses paths with Yuval\, an Israeli journalist who joins his struggle\, and for over half a decade they fight against the expulsion while growing closer. Their complex bond is haunted by the extreme inequality between them: Basel\, living under a brutal military occupation\, and Yuval\, unrestricted and free. This film\, by a Palestinian-Israeli collective of four young activists\, was co-created during the darkest\, most terrifying times in the region\, as an act of creative resistance to Apartheid and a search for a path towards equality and justice. \nSynopsis courtesy of mTuckman Media \nSun Mar 02: 4.00pm PDT

SUMMARY:Hend Yahya: Essential Knife Skills
DESCRIPTION:Build confidence in the kitchen by mastering knife skills! Practice knife-handling hands-on and learn how to cut safely and efficiently in this skill-building workshop. Build a foundation of knife efficiency\, including proper grip\, everyday use and professional techniques. You can bring your favorite chef’s knife or use one of ours. A light snack will be served in class. \nAbout the instructor: After cooking in Michelin Star restaurants and high volume catering events\, I made a “temporary” switch to teaching cooking classes. However\, the satisfaction and unique experience I received from teaching convinced me that this was my new culinary path. I am a graduate of the Le Cordon Bleu\, where I mainly focused on French and Western technique\, but I have deep roots in Middle-Eastern cuisine and an enthusiastic\, developed passion for Japanese cuisine. In my travels I seek out to learn something new\, and for me\, the more specific and obscure\, the better. My interests and abilities continue to range out further\, as long as I can do it\, I will teach it.
