SUMMARY:Cancelled: Jim Al-Khalili The World According to Physics
DESCRIPTION:Honesty and doubt are among the core values of physics—the human quest for ever more foundational principles that accurately explain the natural world we see around us. To shed light on some of the most profound insights revealed by modern physics\, scientific communicator Jim Al-Khalili joins us with observations from his book The World According to Physics. Al-Khalili helps us understand what this crucially important science tells us about the universe and the nature of reality itself by walking us through the core concepts of space\, time\, energy\, and matter. He offers an accessible look at the three pillars of modern physics—quantum theory\, relativity\, and thermodynamics—showing how all three must come together if we are ever to have a full understanding of reality. \nUsing poignant examples and thought-provoking analogies\, Al-Khalili illuminates the physics of the extreme cosmic and quantum scales\, the speculative frontiers of the field\, and the physics that underpins our everyday experiences and technologies. Share in the profound adventure of seeking truth in the world around us as Al-Khalili brings us up to speed with the biggest ideas in this fundamental field of science. \nJim Al-Khalili is professor of physics at the University of Surrey. He is one of Britain’s best-known science communicators and has written numerous books\, including Quantum: A Guide for the Perplexed; The House of Wisdom: How Arabic Science Saved Ancient Knowledge and Gave Us the Renaissance; and Life on the Edge: The Coming of Age of Quantum Biology.rum

SUMMARY:Cancelled: ArabishWay Circle Time Series (2019-2020)
DESCRIPTION:DUE TO THE STAY HOME ORDER – THIS EVENT HAS BEEN CANCELLED! \nHopefully\, we will resume on May 7th! \nBring your little one down and join Laila for a circle time that will have songs\, stories and activities all in Arabic followed by snack and craft time. \nWe will meet once each month and each month will have a theme: (September: alphabet\, October: numbers\, etc.) and the books\, songs and activities will correlate with this theme. \nCircle time is great for non-native speakers who want to expose their child to another language as well as native speakers who want to expose their children to Arabic outside of the home.  It’s also been a great place for people to meet and get to know other families. \nWe will have the meeting room from 10am – 11:30am.  The circle time will run from 10:30am-11:00am followed by informal snack/craft which can be done in class or completed at home. \nRepeats monthly on the 2nd Thursday of the month until February then March through June will be the 1st Thursday of the month. \nThis circle time is geared towards toddlers and early preschool but all ages are welcome and will enjoy the activities!

SUMMARY:Arabic Language "Virtual" Meetup - Seattle
DESCRIPTION:This week’s virtual meetup seemed to work well\, so we’re going to try to meet more regularly so folks can practice Arabic and de-stress with everything that’s going on :). \nFor this meetup\, we’ll have an optional discussion related to this podcast https://pca.st/bjmw8bos (it’s a short 15 min listen) which talks about two people and their journey of finding independence after leaving an orphanage. If you want to participate\, please listen to it ahead of time (thanks Sarah for the suggestion!). \nThis will be a Zoom session. Attendance will still be limited so we can have a good conversation. \nHow to join? I’ll be sending the Zoom session link to those who sign up\, so keep an eye on your Meetup messages 🙂 \nI enabled the video option\, so comb your hair\, and wear your finest pajamas. \nMake sure to install zoom (https://zoom.us/) and have it setup ahead of time so that it’s ready to go. Feel free to reach out if you’re running into any issues and I can try to help :).

SUMMARY:Cancelled: Crescendo at SIFF
DESCRIPTION:This event has been cancelled! \nAs part of a peace summit\, a world-famous German conductor (Peter Simonischek; THE INTERPRETER\, SJFF 2019) creates an orchestra of specially chosen Israeli and Palestinian youth musicians. But can music overcome the feelings of mistrust and suspicion striking chords and shrill notes onstage and off? It takes all the conductor’s skill and resources—and divulging his own tragic story—to overcome the discord and teach them how to achieve harmony\, leading to a tense and emotional finale. \nAcademy Award-nominated director Dror Zahavi has united an impressive supporting cast of Israeli and Palestinian non-actors playing the students into a convincing ensemble\, who fight\, argue\, laugh\, and make music together in this dramatic\, humanist hymn about forgiveness\, reconciliation\, and the astounding power of music. \nWinner of the 2019 Audience Prize at the Festival of German Film. \nDror Zahavi | Drama | Germany\, Israel\, Italy | 2019 | English\, German w/English subtitles | 112m \nRating: PG-13 \nSpecial Guest Intro and performance by Bram Schenck\, principal clarinetist for Seattle Youth Symphony Orchestra and member of the National Youth Orchestra
