SUMMARY:"Living" Room by Abdelfattah Abusrour [virtual]
DESCRIPTION:“Living” Room by Abdelfattah Abusrour\nIf these walls could talk…what would they say about the occupation of Palestine? \nIf these walls could talk…This is the experience of a “living” room in the West Bank under occupation. Find a comfortable chair in your own living room\, and press play. \nAbdelfattah Abusrour is founder and director of Alrowwad Cultural and Arts Society\, established in 1998 in Aida refugee camp-Bethlehem. His concept and philosophy “Beautiful Resistance”\, using performing and visual arts\, culture and education\, is a creative and peaceful expression in situations of oppression and trauma to provide possibilities to save lives and inspire hope and build peace within individuals to be peace builders in their communities and beyond. He started working with children\, youth and later adults\, focused also on mothers and women. Mobile Beautiful Resistance program\, using theatre\, dance\, photography\, games library (play bus) touring all over the West Bank-Palestine to train trainers and connect with other Palestinian communities and marginalized areas. Abusrour is an author\, actor\, and theatre director\, with a PhD in Biological and Medical Engineering from France in 1993. In 2005\, he abandoned his career in Biology because he believed in the power of arts and culture as pure humanity where stereotypes vanish and people are on equal grounds. These are the bridges that people can build together as equals to shape a better future for all the generations to come. Abusrour co-wrote the plays Salut c’est nous in 1990\, and Nourrir de faim; in 1993 while studying in France (Co-founder of Paris Nord Théâtre). He has written\, adapted or performed in many plays produced in Palestine\, including Waiting for the Rain\, Staying Alive\, When Old Men Cry\, “6500\,” and others. \nAbusrour says: “We don’t have the luxury of despair\, but a steadfast hope that we can make a change for our children and the generations to come that we can be proud of” and “Miracles don’t happen alone\, we provoke them to happen.” \nThe sound designer for this play is Wisam Aljafari\, and the recording was made in the Alrowwad studios in Aida Camp\, West Bank. \nNamed one of the Top 5 Immersive Companies in NYC by Jonathan Mandell of tdf.org\, This Is Not a Theatre Company creates site-based\, immersive\, multi-sensory\, participatory dance-theatre that can be smelled\, touched\, and tasted as well as seen and heard. This theatre is not something to passively consume\, but to co-create. SUMMARY:Tacoma Arts Live Regional Theater presents: The Last Days of Judas Iscariot\, By Stephen Adly Guirgis
DESCRIPTION:“An immersive theater experience mixing both comedy and drama amidst a time-bending world between heaven and hell. The Last Days of Judas Iscariot reexamines the fate of the New Testament’s greatest villain\, a traitor\, who betrayed his Lord for 30 pieces of silver. SUMMARY:Arab Film Series Online: There Is A Field + Talkback
DESCRIPTION:3 p.m. EST Sunday\, Feb. 28\, 2021\nArab Film Series Online: There Is A Field (2020) dir. Jen Marlowe \nFree with RSVP/$5 suggested donation \nRSVP for streaming link \nThere Is A Field tells the story of Asel Asleh\, an unarmed 17-year old Palestinian teenager who was murdered while participating in a demonstration calling for an end to Israeli occupation and settler-colonization. \nA play turned performance-reading film\, There Is A Field is performed by Black Lives Matter activists in the U.S.\, and is intercut with the activists’ own realizations of the parallels they see between Asel’s story and the experiences of BIPOC communities in the U.S. Amidst the ongoing Black Lives Matter uprising that reignited in recent months following the police murder of George Floyd\, There Is A Field provides a unique and timely lens for discussing decolonization\, Black liberation\, Black-Palestinian solidarity and cross-movement organizing. \nFollowing the screening\, we are pleased to be joined by director Jen Marlowe for a talkback. \nPalestine\, U.S.A. / 70 minutes / Documentary\, Performance / English \nFor questions\, e-mail Dave Serio\, Public Programming Specialist at dserio@accesscommunity.org.

SUMMARY:People of The Book - by Yussef El Guindi
DESCRIPTION:Yussef El-Guindi is one of the most talented playwrights in the country today\, and he happens to live in Seattle. He earned a Stranger Genius Award in 2015\, shortly after the premiere of his play Threesome\, about an Egyptian American couple who set out to spice up their sex life by inviting an absolute doofus of a white guy into their bedroom.  El Guindi’s new play\, People of the Book\, involves more sexual jealousy across cultural traditions\, as well as a soldier-turned-writer whose massive success with a memoir inspires jealousy from some old high school friends. – Stranger \nPeople of the Book is a very personal play that speaks to much larger national themes.  It’s a gripping drama that is inspired by Euripedes’ Medea and crackles with the kind of contemporary wit that we have come to love about Yussef’s writing.  – Director\, John Langs \nPlease check the Act Theatre’s website for details regarding showtimes and ticket prices. \n  \n

SUMMARY:Radiolab's Jad Abumrad: The Miracle of Indoor Plumbing
DESCRIPTION:Radiolab’s Jad Abumrad: The Miracle of Indoor Plumbing \n\nSTG Presents Radiolab’s Jad Abumrad at The Moore Theatre on April 20\, 2019. \nJAD ABUMRAD is the host and creator of Radiolab (radiolab.org)\, a public radio program broadcast on 524 stations across the nation and downloaded more than 9 million times a month as a podcast. Most days\, Radiolab is the 2nd most popular podcast\, just behind This American Life. \nJad Abumrad did most of his growing up in Tennessee\, before studying creative writing and music composition at Oberlin College in Ohio. Following graduation\, Abumrad wrote music for films\, and reported and produced documentaries for a variety of local and national public radio programs. \nIn 2002\, Abumrad began tinkering with an idea for a new kind of radio program\, an openended radio “laboratory.” Radiolab has since evolved into one of public radio’s most popular programs. Abumrad hosts the program with Robert Krulwich and also serves as its lead producer\, composer and managing editor. Abumrad employs his dual backgrounds as composer and journalist to create what’s been called “a new aesthetic” in broadcast journalism. He orchestrates dialogue\, music\, interviews and sound effects into compelling documentaries that draw listeners into investigations of otherwise intimidating topics\, such as the nature of numbers\, the evolution of altruism\, or the legal foundation for the war on terror. \nIn 2010\, Radiolab was awarded the prestigious George Foster Peabody Award and in 2011 Abumrad was honored as a MacArthur Fellow (also known as the Genius Grant). The MacArthur Foundation website says: “Abumrad is inspiring boundless curiosity within a new generation of listeners and experimenting with sound to find ever more effective and entertaining ways to explain ideas and tell a story.” In 2015 the Radiolab episode “60 Words” was awarded a George Foster Peabody Award. \nThe Radiolab spinoff\, More Perfect\, a series about untold stories of the Supreme Court\, is currently in its 2nd season. The New York Times called More Perfect “…possibly the most mesmerizing podcast.” \nAlongside his radio work\, Abumrad continues to work as a composer and remixer. His music is currently being performed across the country. \n\n
