SUMMARY:Kitsap Solidarity Presents: One Family in Gaza
DESCRIPTION:An original play by Crystal Zevon \nBased on texts from Yasser in Gaza \nIn November 2023\, Crystal Zevon\, a longtime activist for Palestine\, began a text conversation with a young 33 year old Palestinian man in Gaza. Yasser is a civil engineer\, a husband and the father of three young children under the age of seven. For more than a year\, and continuing\, Yasser and Crystal have exchanged texts\, photos and videos on almost a daily basis. These  unedited texts create the basis for telling the poignant\, terrifying\, and sometimes joyful story of one family’s struggle to survive through a genocide. Yasser’s texts are juxtaposed against news items of corresponding dates\, and the thoughts and feelings of someone living in comfort and safety oceans away. \nOne Family in Gaza is a play about simply that – One Family in Gaza . \nThe objective for creating this play is three-fold: \n\n\nTo offer a play that is profound in its reliance on the truths disclosed through a relationship grounded in the reality of two distant and distinct realities\, yet a play so simple that anyone can perform it anywhere – from a dining room table reading to a staged performance. \n\n\nTo humanize Palestinians by creating a relationship with one family whose loves\, fears\, hopes and dreams are not unlike yours. \n\n\nTo motivate those who see the play to continue the discussion\, to delve beneath the media’s glossing over of a genocide and take action to expose it. \nIt is through identification with the  basic human truths revealed in the daily life of one family that we can and must create change. \n\n\nMore information to come (please check website)

SUMMARY:Circle Mirror Transformation
DESCRIPTION:Circle Mirror Transformation is a case study of strangers willing to take a chance and open themselves to the revelations\, indignities\, hilarity\, and heartbreak of an amateur acting class in a community center classroom. In doing so\, they transform the space into the anti-Zoom room; it becomes a quietly poignant reminder of the power of being present with one another\, a reflection of the stories we share through the silliness and the silences\, an open invitation to partake in the transformative and sublime power of play. \nCircle Mirror Transformation premiered at Playwrights Horizons in October 2009. The play received Obie Awards for Best New American Play\, Performance\, Ensemble\, and Directing; and was nominated for the Drama Desk Award for Outstanding Play and Outstanding Director of a Play. \n  \n*This play has an Arab character and Arab actors \n

SUMMARY:"Living" Room by Abdelfattah Abusrour [virtual]
DESCRIPTION:“Living” Room by Abdelfattah Abusrour\nIf these walls could talk…what would they say about the occupation of Palestine? \nIf these walls could talk…This is the experience of a “living” room in the West Bank under occupation. Find a comfortable chair in your own living room\, and press play. \nAbdelfattah Abusrour is founder and director of Alrowwad Cultural and Arts Society\, established in 1998 in Aida refugee camp-Bethlehem. His concept and philosophy “Beautiful Resistance”\, using performing and visual arts\, culture and education\, is a creative and peaceful expression in situations of oppression and trauma to provide possibilities to save lives and inspire hope and build peace within individuals to be peace builders in their communities and beyond. He started working with children\, youth and later adults\, focused also on mothers and women. Mobile Beautiful Resistance program\, using theatre\, dance\, photography\, games library (play bus) touring all over the West Bank-Palestine to train trainers and connect with other Palestinian communities and marginalized areas. Abusrour is an author\, actor\, and theatre director\, with a PhD in Biological and Medical Engineering from France in 1993. In 2005\, he abandoned his career in Biology because he believed in the power of arts and culture as pure humanity where stereotypes vanish and people are on equal grounds. These are the bridges that people can build together as equals to shape a better future for all the generations to come. Abusrour co-wrote the plays Salut c’est nous in 1990\, and Nourrir de faim; in 1993 while studying in France (Co-founder of Paris Nord Théâtre). He has written\, adapted or performed in many plays produced in Palestine\, including Waiting for the Rain\, Staying Alive\, When Old Men Cry\, “6500\,” and others. \nAbusrour says: “We don’t have the luxury of despair\, but a steadfast hope that we can make a change for our children and the generations to come that we can be proud of” and “Miracles don’t happen alone\, we provoke them to happen.” \nThe sound designer for this play is Wisam Aljafari\, and the recording was made in the Alrowwad studios in Aida Camp\, West Bank. \nNamed one of the Top 5 Immersive Companies in NYC by Jonathan Mandell of tdf.org\, This Is Not a Theatre Company creates site-based\, immersive\, multi-sensory\, participatory dance-theatre that can be smelled\, touched\, and tasted as well as seen and heard. This theatre is not something to passively consume\, but to co-create. With each production\, This Is Not a Theatre Company asks the audience to perceive the world in new ways\, to empathize in new ways\, and to practice creativity. SUMMARY:Tacoma Arts Live Regional Theater presents: The Last Days of Judas Iscariot\, By Stephen Adly Guirgis
DESCRIPTION:“An immersive theater experience mixing both comedy and drama amidst a time-bending world between heaven and hell. The Last Days of Judas Iscariot reexamines the fate of the New Testament’s greatest villain\, a traitor\, who betrayed his Lord for 30 pieces of silver. Set in a Purgatory courtroom\, Judas is brought to judgement to determine if he is guilty of greatest betrayal of all time. Whether Judas enters through the gates of heaven or burns in hell rests upon the testimony of saints and sinners including Pontius Pilate\, Mother Teresa\, Sigmund Freud\, Satan and others. Through outrageous comedy and deep pathos\, this play challenges audiences to reflect upon their own beliefs\, their own sin and to reconsider what they know about forgiveness\, faith\, and the human inside one of the history’s most infamous figures.” \n  \nPreview Night: Thursday\, October 13\, 2022 at 7:30 p.m.\nFriday\, October 14\, 2022 at 7:30 p.m.\nSaturday\, October 15\, 2022 at 7:30 p.m.\nSunday\, October 16\, 2022 at 3:00 p.m.\nFriday\, October 21\, 2022 at 7:30 p.m.\nSaturday\, October 22\, 2022 at 7:30 p.m.\nSunday\, October 23\, 2022 at 3:00 p.m.*
