SUMMARY:Virtual Delegations to Om Sleiman Farm: Eyewitness Palestine
DESCRIPTION:Join us for a virtual tour of Om Sleiman Farm\, where farming is a powerful form of resistance! As Yara states in a Vice article (2018)\, “we’re so dependent on the occupier—for the electricity\, water\, housing\, food\, movement\, with the air almost. If we as Palestinians cannot produce our own food\, build our own shelter\, have our own energy—how can we get rid of this occupation?” \nYour Guide\, Yara! \nYara Dowani\, from Jerusalem\, is the co-founder and a farmer at Om Sleiman Farm-Bi’lin. Her journey started after joining a permaculture course in Palestine for two weeks. Afterwards\, she took a trip to Spain for a year to volunteer and learn from different farms and projects and then came back to Palestine to join a research group to study wild perennial plants. In 2018\, Yara became part of the Om Sleiman team and has been a part of it ever since. She is now on a journey to learn new topics\, such as natural building and syntropic farming\, to be able to implement new innovative projects at the farm. \n(All tour times are listed in Eastern Time – USA) \n\n\n\n\n\n\nREGISTER\n\nTuesday July 6 2:00pm – 3:3opm ET\nSaturday\, July 10\, 12pm – 1:30pm ET\nWednesday\, July 14\, 12pm -1:30pm ET\nSunday\, July 18\, 2pm – 3:30pm ET

SUMMARY:Nesrine Malik (livestream) Six Political Myths Used to Deflect and Discredit Demands for Social Justice
DESCRIPTION:In 2016\, then-presidential candidate Donald Trump declared: “I think the big problem this country has is being politically correct.” This led many after his victory to blame “identity politics” for his win. When Trump was banned from Twitter\, he claimed it was an assault on free speech. Columnist Nesrine Malik contends that both of these things were myths\, and joins us to explain how these arguments over lies impact the struggle for greater equality in society. \nIn a livestream presentation\, she shares from her book We Need New Stories: The Myths That Subvert Freedom\, looking at how what she believes to be the lie that American values are under assault creates a solid obfuscation from the real problems. By interweaving reporting with a frank and no-holds-barred analysis of American history and politics\, Malik offers a compelling account of how calls to preserve “free speech” are used against the vulnerable; how a fixation with “wokeness\,” “political correctness\,” and “cancel culture” is in fact an organized and well-funded campaign by elites; and how the fear of racial minorities and their “identity politics” obscures the biggest threat of all–white terrorism. Don’t miss this poignant inspection of the crises roiling American contemporary politics–and the introduction of a radical framework for understanding and identifying it. \nNesrine Malik is an award-winning British-Sudanese columnist and features writer for the Guardian. She lives in London.

SUMMARY:Water\, Health and Human Rights: Marking World Water Day\, from the U.S. to Palestine
DESCRIPTION:World Water Day March 22\, 2021\nThe UN designated March 22 as World Water Day in 1993. \nIn the years since\, various UN agencies have declared water to be a human right that “should be treated as a social & cultural good\, and not primarily as an economic good.” The UN General Assembly formally recognized water as a human right in 2010. \nThese declarations have not stopped large corporations from turning water into a commodity to be bought and sold for a profit.  In Indigenous lands in the U.S. and around the globe water resources have been plundered and polluted\, with devastating consequences for traditional ways of living and the environment. The ongoing seizure and diversion of water to drive Indigenous peoples from their land have been tools of colonial domination from the Americas to Palestine and beyond. \nIn the U.S. communities of color have disproportionately faced the poisoning of their water and environment.  In some American cities water shutoffs for nonpayment of bills have forced people to leave their homes\, paving the way for gentrification. \nWars are already being fought over water and this is only going to continue as we confront the devastating effects of climate change. Texas recently experienced a ‘Gaza Strip’ moment\, when the impact of a freezing storm and deregulated grid left people without power and drinkable water. \nThe era of the Covid-19 pandemic has brought many problems into urgent focus\, and access to clean water is one of them. \n Find out how you can get involved in campaigns for water justice at our March 22nd webinar\, Water\, Health and Human Rights: Marking World Water Day\, from the U.S. to Palestine.  It will focus on water struggles in Detroit\, Flint\, Indigenous lands\, prisons and Palestine and help build public support for legislation to stop water shut-offs in the U.S. during the Covid-19 pandemic. \nRegister here.
