SUMMARY:We See You: Community Feast
DESCRIPTION:It takes a village to ensure we all feel seen\, supported\, and safe. It’s a tall order but we know that together\, we can. We believe in the power that exists within the collective to co-create spaces of care. \nThis month\, we’ve organized a very special healing event that centers around the idea of community care.In the wake of the violence taking place in Gaza\, we want invite our community to come together to PRACTICE solidarity work in accessible ways. \nOn top of our signature free catered meals\, free entertainment \, healing services\, and conscious community building work; this month we will have a few more offerings that may support us in living out our desires to be in solidarity. \nThere will be education spaces to learn more about the talking points and how to advocate\, there will be a collective space for grief \, there will be cultural performances and celebrations of Palestinian culture\, sign creation\, and opportunities to create self care kits for the core Palestinian organizers doing the important work here in seattle. \nIf you’d like to contribute to the self care kits\, please bring items for between 15-30 people so we can construct the kits. Also reach out to us if you’d like to offer up any food \, resources \, or energy. \nLook out for more info about all the amazing people involved in our collective action and the spaces we will create. Please share this post with people you feel might want to participate in our collective action and continue to build conscious community with us.

SUMMARY:Gathering and Webinar: Violations of International Humanitarian Law
DESCRIPTION:On Thursday 11/2 we will join with @bayanseattle @samidounseattle and allies to hold a gathering (and webinar) from 6:30-8:00 PST discussing these violations of International Humanitarian Law (IHL)\, especially urgent as we have now lost contact with those on the ground in Gaza. \n✉️ We are calling for sign-on support to a letter from Labor for Palestine to cease the genocide in Gaza now\, as well as a letter to US Congress denouncing the extrajudicial killing of Jude Fernandez (both sign-ons are linked in event registration). \nThe 11/2 gathering will be held at MPOP x CID Coalition Worker Center\, with remote webinar access also available; registration and letter sign-on info available here: tinyurl.com/humanrightsunderattack \n  \nOn October 3rd\, Kilusang Mayo Uno (KMU) released an urgent update on the brutal killing of Jude Fernandez\, a Filipino labor leader who spent his time organizing workers to campaign for higher wages and better working conditions. Jude Fernandez started labor organizing during the era of Martial Law under Marcos Sr. and had continued the work until now. \nThe Philippine National Police (PNP) who perpetrated the murder\, claimed that Jude attempted to fight back in an attempt to justify the killing\, despite him being an unarmed unionist. This is the 72nd labor-related killing in the Philippines since 2016 and the fourth within this year of 2023\, by paramilitary units funded by the United States. We view these attacks as not just against one person\, but the whole of the Philippine labor movement\, and of the international labor movement. \nUS funding and support for attacks against the people is not isolated to the Philippines\, as we have continued to see with the most recent bombings on the Palestinian people. The Biden administration has continued to express support for the apartheid state of Israel\, despite their campaign of genocide against civilians in Gaza and the West Bank\, dropping 6\,000 bombs between October 7th and October 12th\, the use of White Phosphorous bombs against populated areas\, as well as en masse “terror-tagging” and continued bombings of civilians and evacuation routes.

SUMMARY:Book Launch and Activist Gathering
DESCRIPTION:“Greater than the Sum of Our Parts” is by Nada Elia\, local author and activist\, and is newly published by Pluto Press. Nada’s book launch provides an opportunity to connect with fellow activists\, expand our knowledge of each other’s struggles\, and hear from Nada about this important book!\n\n\n\n\n\n \nWHEN: Saturday\, March 4\, 4:00-6:00 pm\nWHERE: Cherry Street Village\, 720 25th Avenue Seattle\, WA 98122\n \nPlease Register here! (If you can’t make it but would still like a copy of the book\, you can get one here!)\n \nABOUT THE EVENT:\n\nToday\, there is a growing understanding that Palestinian liberation is connected to numerous other struggles for safety\, dignity\, freedom\, and self sovereignty. This book launch and gathering will be an opportunity to hear more about and celebrate the launch of GREATER THAN THE SUM OF OUR PARTS. Equally important\, It will be a much-needed opportunity to meet and network with fellow activists and organizers\, so we can expand our knowledge of each other’s struggles\, and better show up for each other.\n\n \nABOUT THE BOOK: \n\n\n\n\n\nHow is the struggle for Palestinian freedom bound up in other freedom struggles\, and how are activists coming together globally to achieve justice and liberation for all?\nIn this bold book\, Palestinian activist Nada Elia unpacks Zionism\, from its hypermilitarism to incarceration\, its environmental devastation and gendered violence. She insists that Palestine’s fate is linked through bonds of solidarity to other communities crossing racial and gender lines\, weaving an intersectional feminist understanding of Israeli apartheid throughout her analysis. She also looks deeper into the interconnectedness of Palestine with Black\, migrant\, and queer movements\, and with other indigenous struggles against settler colonialism\, including that of Native Americans.\nGreater than the Sum of Our Parts is a powerful and hopeful account\, highlighting the role of the Palestinian diaspora\, youth\, and women\, and inspired by activists across the world.\n\n \nHosted by: Dunya Productions-Seattle\n

SUMMARY:What's next for the right to boycott in America?
DESCRIPTION:Thursday\, March 2 at 1:00 pm Eastern. \nThis virtual gathering\, co-sponsored by the Institute for Middle East Understanding\, Jewish Currents and Just Vision\, will provide a unique opportunity to hear directly from Alan Leveritt\, publisher of the Arkansas Times and protagonist in Boycott\, together with his attorney\, Brian Hauss\, a lawyer at the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU). I will also be joined by Boycott protagonists Bahia Amawi\, a speech therapist and plaintiff from Texas; Mikkel Jordahl\, an attorney and plaintiff from Arizona; Dima Khalidi\, a lawyer and the Executive Director of Palestine Legal; Lara Friedman\, a researcher and the President of the Foundation for Middle East Peace; and our very own\, Julia Bacha\, Just Vision‘s Creative Director and Director of Boycott. \nThis is an opportunity to be in community as we mark the worldwide online release of Boycott on the heels of the Supreme Court’s announcement earlier this week. We’re counting on you to bring your curiosities and questions\, and to be part of the next phase of our campaign to bring attention to anti-boycott laws and their implications. \nPlease register here by Wednesday\, March 1\, and feel free to extend this invitation to your family\, friends and community. Our shared work to protect the right to dissent continues\, and we hope you can join us in this important conversation.
