DESCRIPTION:VIRTUAL TEACH IN! SAVE THE DATE! On Sunday March 3rd we are co-hosting a teach in featuring speakers from @samidounseattle and @haitiaction to bring to light the dire situation in Haiti right now. \nOn February 29th\, 2004 democratically elected president Jean Bertrand Aristide was kidnapped and flown out of Haiti and into exile by US forces. Since\, the country has had an array of US backed governments that have resulted in the crisis Haitians are living today. \nIn October 2023\, around the same time that the Pal3stinian resistance breached the wall in Gaza\, the UN approved a US backed Kenyan led 12 month military mission to “bring peace” to Haiti. Yes\, the UN approved to fly Kenyan soldiers to Haiti to bring “stability”. \nThere’s plenty that Haiti and Pal3stine have in common and we want to bring that to the fore during this teach in\, especially during this important 20 year anniversary of the coup that took Aristide and the Fanmi Lavalas Party out of power. \nThe teach in will take place March 3rd over zoom from 11am – 12:30 pm pst. DESCRIPTION:The Reinterpreting Liberation program and the Center for Community-Based Learning and Action (CCBLA) at The Evergreen State College present a discussion about how global struggles for liberation intersect.\n\nWith a focus on the genocide in Gaza\, Nada Elia and Jesse Hagopian will discuss how global struggles for liberation intersect and how this informs their work as activists and educators. This event\, which is open to the community\, is moderated by Jen Marlowe\, founder of DonkeySaddle Projects\, author\, and filmmaker.\n\nJesse Hagopian has been an educator for over twenty years and taught for over a decade at Seattle’s Garfield High School\, the site of the historic boycott of the MAP test. He is an editor for the social justice periodical Rethinking Schools and the book More Than a Score: The New Uprising Against High-Stakes Testing. He is a co-editor of Black Lives Matter at School\, Teaching for Black Lives\, Teacher Unions and Social Justice\, and an organizer with the Black Lives Matter at School movement. In 2011\, Jesse participated in the Interfaith Peace Builder’s historic first African Heritage Delegation that brought 14 African Americans to Israel and Palestine to meet with civil society organizations\, human rights groups\, and grassroots activists to better understand the conflict. Jesse will join the panel over Zoom.\n  \nNada Elia teaches Arab American Studies and Cultural Studies at Fairhaven College\, WWU\, where she is affiliated with the Women\, Gender and Sexuality Studies Program. A scholar-activist\, Nada is a member of the Palestinian Feminist Collective\, and regularly publishes editorials about gender\, activism\, and transnational struggles. She is the author of Greater than the Sum of Our Parts: Feminism\, Inter/Nationalism\, and Palestine. She has co-edited Critical Ethnic Studies: A Reader\, the INCITE! Women of Color Against Violence Activist Toolkit\, and the award-winning The Revolution Will Not Be Funded\, and has contributed chapters to numerous anthologies\, including\, most recently\, Palestine: A Socialist Introduction. DESCRIPTION:🚨SEATTLE: SHUT IT DOWN FOR PALESTINE THIS SATURDAY 1/20 🇵🇸 \nAs part of the international day of action to #shutitdown4palestine\, we will be demonstrating at the U-District light rail station to denounce the links between the publicly-funded Sound Transit and multinational conglomerate\, Siemens\, who works to enhance Israeli occupation and colonisation in Palestine. \nOver $118\,000\,000 of our state taxes already directly fund the Israeli military\, but unfortunately\, our taxes and economy are even more intertwined with Zionist occupation and U.S. imperialism. In 2016/2017\, Sound Transit entered into a $714\,718\,000 contract with Siemens to acquire 152 light rail vehicles. This is despite the fact that another company can produce the same vehicles and is not actively breaking international law by supporting Israeli occupation and colonialism. \nRight now\, the Sound Transit board is in the process of acquiring 10 more light rail vehicles from Siemens at the cost of over $96 million dollars\, paid for by our tax dollars! \n* We demand an end to the Sound Transit contracts with Siemens!\n* Sound Transit\, cut ties with genocide!\n* End all U.S. aid to Israel!\n* Immediate ceasefire on Gaza!\n* End the Siege on Gaza!\n* Release all Palestinian prisoners!\n* End the occupation!
