SUMMARY:TAMINO at Neumos
DESCRIPTION:Rising Belgian-Egyptian musician Tamino is pleased to unveil the details of his second album\, Sahar\, due out 23rd September on Communion Records. The grandson of one of Egypt’s most famed singers and film stars\, Tamino channels his own lineage\, as well as the folk and rock music traditions from the Middle East and Europe for a borderless and timeless record. To coincide with its announcement\, Tamino shares new single ‘Fascination’. Listen HERE Created in the wake of the international acclaim that followed his debut album Amir\, Sahar was born in Tamino’s Antwerp apartment. Already adept at playing guitar and piano\, Tamino took up the oud\, an Arabic lute\, under the mentorship of a Syrian refugee living in Antwerp. The instrument served as a key tool in the songwriting process and provides a melancholic soundscape that is threaded throughout the project. The record is a distillation of Tamino’s solitary reflections\, and a product of work with close collaborators including Radiohead bassist Colin Greenwood\, producer/engineer PJ Maertens\, and drummer Ruben Vanhoutte. Tamino’s 2018 breakout debut album Amir was met with widespread acclaim from critics and fans alike. The Antwerp-based musician’s fanbase stretches across the world\, from the Middle East to North America\, and the album has collected over 126 million streams. As previously announced\, Tamino plays two intimate shows later this month in Paris and London\, with both selling out in under five minutes. Later this Autumn\, he will take Sahar out on the road\, with a tour of North America\, followed by a handful of dates in Europe. He headlines London’s KOKO on 24th November. Tickets go on general sale from 10am local time on Friday 10th June via www.taminomusic.com. For all pre-sale news\, sign up to Tamino’s mailing list at www.tamino.lnk.to/mailinglist

SUMMARY:Sudan Archives at Neumos
DESCRIPTION:“As Sudan Archives\, Brittney Parks has combined left-field strains of R&B\, hip-hop\, and experimental electronic music with hypnotic string loops and the fiddling style of West Africa\, as heard on a pair of EPs and her debut full-length\, Athena (2019). She masterfully bridged the gap between her early glitchy\, avant-garde compositions and timeless songwriting on the “stunning\, reflective” (Pitchfork) Athena\, and returned in 2022 with two new songs (Home Maker\, Selfish Soul). The self-taught violinist\, singer\, songwriter\, and producer started playing violin in her native Cincinnati\, Ohio. After Parks moved to Los Angeles to study music technology\, she started producing beats on a tablet computer with the addition of her vocals and strings\, the latter increasingly inspired by immersion in Sudanese music. For her first LP (Athena)\, she took a collaborative approach and worked with a group of fellow producers who included Paul White\, Rodaidh McDonald\, and Wilma Archer after self-producing her first two EP’s. “A swaggering statement of intent with all the idiosyncratic charm that makes her music so memorable” – Pitchfork (Best New Track\, 2022) “The US singer and violinist’s debut album contains some of the most viscerally gorgeous music put to record this year” – The Guardian
“Athena is … a record of true beauty and resilience.” – CRACK” (Promo Copy)

SUMMARY:Imarhan at the Tractor Tavern
DESCRIPTION:“In early 2019 the members of Imarhan began literally laying the groundwork for their third album. The Tuareg quintet was building a professional recording studio\, the first ever in their home city of Tamanrasset in Southern Algeria\, from the ground up. By March of 2020 the studio was filled with high-end audio gear otherwise inaccessible to the vast majority of musicians in much of the Saharan region. The group christened it Aboogi\, named for the first semi-permanent structures their nomadic forebears built when establishing settlements and villages\, and began tracking the first album they were able to record on their native soil. It seemed only natural to also call the resulting collection of songs Aboogi\, a nod to the new collective space they had established\, as well as the resilience of their culture and communities. \nThe diversity\, beauty\, and struggles of life in Tamanrasset are reflected in the songs on Aboogi.  Following the exhilarating\, eclectic Temet – which OkayAfrica declared “doesn’t just take the next step in Tuareg music; it sends it into hyperspace” – Imarhan has made an album that is as serene and open as the desert it emerged from. “Aboogi reflects the colors of Tamanrasset\, what we experience in everyday life\,” says bandleader Iyad Moussa Ben Abderahmane\, aka Sadam. “We give space to the wind and the natural energies\, to the sun and the sand. We want to express their colors through music.” There is incredible warmth embedded in these steady\,\nlilting rhythms and patiently strummed acoustic guitars\, derived not just from the natural environment but from the community that surrounds them. That warmth may come from the Saharan sun and those living under it\, fostered by many generations of musicians that came before them\, but it emanates outwards as Imarhan become leading ambassadors for their people and culture around the world.”

SUMMARY:Musician Ali Gatie: Who Hurt You? Tour
DESCRIPTION:Ali Gatie’s music is intimate in a way that almost feels private. The Toronto-raised artist’s pop-meets-R&B is often vulnerable\, wounded\, and yearning — listening is less like thumbing through his diary than stumbling upon the pages he’s ripped out and stuffed at the bottom of a drawer. Hits like double-platinum acoustic love letter “It’s You” and 2021 EP\, The Idea of Her\, demonstrate how affecting such an approach can be — he shares the contours of his emotions in hopes that listeners see themselves reflected. And his fans\, The LISNers\, have connected to these songs in a way that feels profound. After blossoming his sound via bigger projects like 2020’s You\, he’s now accumulated over 3.5 billion streams across platforms. Gatie isn’t the type to care about such numbers\, but it’s evidence of the powerfully authentic bonds he’s been able to form. The Idea of Her is full of new leaps\, including a colorful collaboration with Marshmello and Ty Dolla $ign called “Do You Believe\,” which makes it the perfect next step for both Gatie and The LISNers — the EP underscores his unguarded approach to songwriting while emphasizing that there are new worlds out there to explore. “I want my fans to know I’m still figuring this out\,” he says of his next chapter. “I might not know for five or 10 years\, but this is where I feel like I sit most comfortably. You can expect the unexpected.” \n  \nFriday\, December 16\, 2022\nDoors at 7:00 pm\nShow at 8:00 pm \nGeneral Admission\nAll Ages \n$17.50 in advance\n$22.50 day of show\n(not including fees) \nSTG strongly encourages and recommends when attending a performance that you wear a mask. SUMMARY:SAMIA - Honey Tour with Tommy Lefroy
DESCRIPTION:There’s a line on Honey\, the latest album from Nashville-via-NYC songwriter Samia\, about Aspen Grove\, a collection of 40\,000 trees in the plains of North America\, all connected by a single expansive root system. There’s no stronger metaphor for the audience the 25-year-old empathy engine has been generating since she began releasing music seven years ago. Her songs\, her fans\, her friends: one enormous\, interconnected ecosystem. Honey\, comprised of eleven new moments of catharsis\, is by and for that organism. Set for release on January 23rd 2023 via Grand Jury Music\, the album was recorded at North Carolina studio Betty’s –- owned and operated by Sylvan Esso’s Nick Sandborn and Amelia Meath. It was produced by Caleb Wright\, part of the team that helmed Samia’s breakthrough 2020 debut The Baby\, and a founding member of one of Samia’s favorite bands\, The Happy Children. It features some of her nearest and dearest friends: Christian Lee Hutson\, Briston Maroney\, Jake Luppen\, Raffaella. Its songs were surreptitiously road tested for her devotees while opening for Lucy Dacus\, Courtney Barnett\, and more. The end result is what Samia calls simply “a real community record.” “We tried to be as honest as possible and keep the songs as raw as possible\,” Samia said. “We talked a lot about zooming out and zooming in\, giving a lot of weight to the small moments and considering them as part of a big picture\, how they factor into everything else that’s happening in the world.”

DESCRIPTION:Soprano Fatma Said and guitarist Rafael Aguirre bring the beauty of Arabic and Spanish cultures together to create a sublime and illuminating experience that you won’t want to miss. \nFatma Said\, making her United States recital debut with this performance\, began her singing career at age fourteen in Cairo. She has since become a frequent principal at Teatro alla Scala and other opera houses and festivals across Europe. She maintains a busy schedule as a soloist with orchestras as well\, appearing locally in the Boston Symphony Orchestra’s 2019 performances and recording of Suor Angelica. Of her latest album El Nour\, which means ‘the light\,’” in Arabic\, Fatma says\, “I feel I am shedding light on how music that has been interpreted many times in the past can be presented in different ways—in other words\, it can be perceived in a different light. The idea is to connect three cultures—Arabic\, French\, and Spanish—and to show how much\, despite cultural\, geographical\, and historical differences\, they have in common when it comes to music.” \n  \nThe program features Spanish\, Egyptian\, Brazilian\, and Lebanese songs\, including works by Manuel de Falla\, Daoud Hosni\, Heitor Villa-Lobos\, contemporary Egyptian composer Sherif Mohie El Din\, and many more.

SUMMARY:Sessa at Madame Lou's
DESCRIPTION:Sessa’s instrument is his nylon-stringed classical guitar\, but in a wider sense\, the musical voice of Estrela Acesa — in English\, “Burning Star” — is defined by delicate tendrils of flute\, floating bass and shifting hand percussion. These elements are backdropped by the subtlest orchestration and foregrounded by his breathy tenor and lyrics that blur the lines between the personal and metaphysical. It’s a sublime variation of Tropicália\, the Brazilian sound that came of age in the late ’60s by flavoring traditional forms such as samba and bossa nova with Western styles of rock and jazz. \n  \nSessa is Brazillian.  His parents hailed from the Levant.
