Zither player Kurt Eckroth joins us for the iconic Ländler country dance tune\, which then whisks us into a whirlwind of 5 glorious waltzes. \n\n\nAscending Bird tells the story of a mythic bird that tries to reach the sun. It tries at first and falls back down. It tries again\, then finally on the third time it receives the radiant embrace of the sun and loses its physical body\, in a metaphor for spiritual transcendence. The music is an arrangement of an old Persian folk tune\, starting gently and working up to a thrilling close. \n\n\nHailed as ‘spellbinding’ (The New Yorker) and ‘intensely soulful’ (The New York Times)\, guest artist and composer Kinan Azmeh brings us his genre-bending Suite for Improvisor and Orchestra. The suite takes us from Love on 139th Street in D\, a vibrant homage to Harlem’s cultural mix\, to November 22nd\, a meditative reflection on finding home far from home\, and concludes with Wedding\, in the spirit of a Syrian village celebration. \n\n\nSeating is at 8-top tables for both concerts\, general admission.
