Our theme this year is “Finding Home”. We will consider various aspects of being a refugee\, in Palestine\, as well as many other places in this 21st century world. SUMMARY:Human Flow - Meaningful Movie
DESCRIPTION:Human Flow – Meaningful Movie \nWhen there is nowhere to go\, nowhere is home. –Ai Weiwei. Over 65 million people have been displaced from their homes due to climate disasters\, war\, and poverty. Ai Weiwei travels around the world to meet refugees as they seek peace and freedom. He befriends individuals living in temporary tent communities while waiting out the uncertainty of their futures. \n“Human Flow” challenges us to ask ourselves whether we will choose respect for one another or fear each other. \nThe movie will begin at 6:30pm and runs 140 minutes. The event is FREE to the public. Donations are greatly appreciated! \n\nSpecial Guests: We are honored to have Rita Zawaidah as our special guest for the evening. SUMMARY:What is Democracy? - Northwest Film Forum
DESCRIPTION:Film: What is Democracy?\n\n** Co-presented with Town Hall Seattle! ** \nComing at a moment of profound political and social crisis\, What Is Democracy? reflects on a word we too often take for granted. Director Astra Taylor’s idiosyncratic\, philosophical journey spans millennia and continents: from ancient Athens’ groundbreaking experiment in self-government to capitalism’s roots in medieval Italy; from modern-day Greece grappling with financial collapse and a mounting refugee crisis to the United States reckoning with its racist past and the growing gap between rich and poor. \nFeaturing a diverse cast —including celebrated theorists\, trauma surgeons\, activists\, factory workers\, asylum seekers\, and former prime ministers—this urgent film connects the past and the present\, the emotional and the intellectual\, the personal and the political\, in order to provoke and inspire. If we want to live in democracy\, we must first ask what the word even means. From the director of Zizek! and Examined Life. \n\n
