DESCRIPTION:It takes a village to ensure we all feel seen\, supported\, and safe. It’s a tall order but we know that together\, we can. We believe in the power that exists within the collective to co-create spaces of care. \nThis month\, we’ve organized a very special healing event that centers around the idea of community care.In the wake of the violence taking place in Gaza\, we want invite our community to come together to PRACTICE solidarity work in accessible ways. \nOn top of our signature free catered meals\, free entertainment \, healing services\, and conscious community building work; this month we will have a few more offerings that may support us in living out our desires to be in solidarity. \nThere will be education spaces to learn more about the talking points and how to advocate\, there will be a collective space for grief \, there will be cultural performances and celebrations of Palestinian culture\, sign creation\, and opportunities to create self care kits for the core Palestinian organizers doing the important work here in seattle. \nIf you’d like to contribute to the self care kits\, please bring items for between 15-30 people so we can construct the kits. Also reach out to us if you’d like to offer up any food \, resources \, or energy. \nLook out for more info about all the amazing people involved in our collective action and the spaces we will create. It is a dreadful feeling\, to feel powerless to do anything about this new Nakba.\n  \nHere’s one thing we will do: raise funds for humanitarian relief for the children of Gaza.\n  \nThe Palestine Children’s Relief Fund is a highly recommended humanitarian organization that is focusing specifically on the plight of Gazan children. It is well-known to those of us who are active regarding Palestine solidarity. You can look them up here.\n  \nWe are holding a benefit concert to contribute to this fund:\nDATE:             Saturday\, February 3\, 7:00 p.m.\nLOCATION:   Café Paloma\, 93 Yesler (Pioneer Square)\nADMISSION:   $20.00\nADVANCE RESERVATIONS NECESSARY\n  \nMusic will be performed by the House of Tarab\, a Seattle-based\, Arabic music ensemble that performs classic and traditional material from the golden era of Egyptian music. The group also performs music of the Levant (Jordan\, Lebanon\, Syria\, and Palestine)\, and the greater Middle East.\n  \n“Tarab” is an Arabic word that describes a state of emotional transformation and bliss when one is wholly absorbed in music. Musicians: Stephen Elaimy on oud\, David McGrath on ney\, Jane Hall on percussion.\n  \nRESERVATIONS: Café Paloma is a small place with only about a 35-seat capacity. You must call in and reserve a seat: 206 405 1920.\n  \nIT’S A BENEFIT\, SO EXPECT TO SPEND MONEY: We’re sorry\, but this event is not for the broke. The House of Tarab has generously decided to donate their share of the admission charge to the Palestine Children’s Relief Fund—and we will pass the hat in the course of the evening. And\, of course\, you’ll want to dine on the excellent fare offered by Café Paloma. It’s completely free to come 🙂 \nThe Mutual Aid Fair for Palestinian Liberation\, is organized by UW’s Black Student Union\, Subvert UDistrict\, SUPER\, SARI\, RESIST\, United Front\, and Modality. It is aimed towards meeting basic needs of our community through providing free supplies such as shoes\, sleeping bags\, boots\, coats\, tents\, tarps\, food\, COVID safety PPE\, etc. Speaking to international solidarity\, this event is meant to fundraise in support of the humanitarian crisis and ongoing genocide of Palestinians\, waged by the settler-colonial and Western-backed power\, Israel. \nMasks are required! We will be distributinf a variety of masks for people to use too.
