SUMMARY:2026 International Day of Peace Surfacing Hope
DESCRIPTION:Whatcom Peace and Justice Center is excited to announce the 2026 International Day of Peace! Recognized by the United Nations since 1982 and the City of Bellingham since 2017\, this is a community-focused day of celebration that offers space to support our work in uplifting local organizers and connecting to global movements against violence and oppression. \nInternational Day of Peace is WPJC’s main fundraising and educational event of the year\, raising critical funds to support the ever more vital work of the Center in advocating for peace and against wars at home and abroad.\n\nThis year\, we’re celebrating with the theme: “Surfacing Hope”.  Despite living in a time of deep economic precarity\, fear of another global war\, relentless AI intrusion\, and institutions that betray the public trust\, this year’s theme reminds us that hope is always there\, often just beneath the surface; it is this hope that inspires creatives to keep producing art\, whether in writing\, painting\, dancing\, or organizing and building community \nAmazing food\, silent action and fabulous performers (including Instisaar) will be performing!

SUMMARY:SFSTF 11th Annual Gala Fundraiser | Rooted in Hope\, Rising Together
DESCRIPTION:Celebrate 10+ years with the SFSTF featuring food\, entertainment\, and stories from survivors we serve. Proudly sponsored by Sound Transit! \n\n\n\n\nFor many years\, the Somali Family Safety Task Force has stood beside refugee\, immigrant\, and underrepresented families across King County. We are a community group\, shaped by the people we serve\, because real change starts with listening. \nThis September\, we’d love for you to celebrate that journey with us at our 11th Annual Gala: Rooted in Hope\, Rising Together. Held at the NewHolly Gathering Hall in Seattle\, this gala fundraiser brings together good food\, live entertainment\, and real connection\, but at its heart\, it’s a celebration of resilience. It’s a night where survivors are heard\, where families finally feel seen\, and where our community comes together around hope for what’s next. \nOur mission is to provide culturally grounded advocacy\, education\, and leadership programs built by and for the families we serve. Through this work\, we help survivors of domestic violence heal\, help young people find their voice\, and help underrepresented families gain equal access to opportunity. \nWe would like to give thanks to our sponsor\, Sound Transit\, for helping us make this celebration possible. \nCome celebrate over 10 years of service with us as we look forward to everything still to come.

SUMMARY:CAIR Banquet Featuring Speaker Ilhan Omar
DESCRIPTION:This year\, we honor the champions of change — those building our collective power in our community. Join us\,Rep. Ilhan Omar\, and many more guest speakers at our annual CAIR-WA banquet on Saturday\, October 10th at 6:00 pm at the Meydenbauer Center. \n  \nIlhan Omar is a powerhouse in Congress. Ilhan was born in Somalia and came to the U.S. as a young refugee. She has served in U.S. Congress since 2019. Ilhan is one of the first two Muslim women in the U.S. Congress\, and the first Somali American to serve in Congress. \nOn a daily basis\, Rep. Omar resists destructive policies that chip away at our rights and freedoms and fights to build a more inclusive and compassionate society\, one where our economy can flourish and all Americans can participate in the democratic process. \nIlhan Omar represents Minnesota’s 5th Congressional District in the U.S. House of Representatives\, which includes Minneapolis and surrounding areas. An experienced Twin Cities policy analyst\, organizer\, public speaker\, and advocate\, Rep. Omar was sworn into office in January 2019\, making her the first Somali-American member of Congress\, the first woman of color to represent Minnesota. \nDespite being a target of the Islamophobic Trump Administration\, Ilhan continues to stand firm against hate\, preaching love and justice over this antagonization and demonization of our communities. When her city was targeted by ICE she stood by her community joining the thousands of protestors to rally against the shooting of an innocent bystander. \nWe are excited to have such a fearless change-maker at our banquet; and we hope to see you there to hear from and celebrate the work of CAIR-WA and Ilhan Omar!
