SUMMARY:Mary Ann Peters: myself inside your story
DESCRIPTION:An artist and activist for five decades\, Mary Ann Peters’ drawings\, paintings\, and sculptural installations address the incomplete histories of the Middle East. A second-generation Lebanese American woman\, Peters is simultaneously connected to and distanced from a family homeland known to her through generations of stories\, photographs\, and lived experiences\, as well as her travels abroad\, and – like many of us – from news sources.  As the title of exhibition hints\, Peters makes reference to histories that are not her story but are\, by heritage\, a connection to documented cultural records tied to the Middle East.

SUMMARY:UN Movie Society presents PALESTINE 36
DESCRIPTION:UN Movie Society presents global event featuring Palestine’s Oscar submission for best international feature film Palestine 36\n\n\nVIRTUAL GLOBAL LAUNCH (LIVE & ON DEMAND): UNITED NATIONS\nSaturday\, 29 November 2025 \nInternational Day of Solidarity with the Palestinian People\n9:00am EST (New York Time)\nUN Global YouTube:  https://youtu.be/-3hhiNZnS6A \nUN WebTV: https://webtv.un.org/en/asset/k1q/k1qkhezqeo \n  \nOn the International Day of Solidarity with the Palestinian People\, on Saturday\, 29 November 2025\, the UN Movie Society of the United Nations Staff Recreation Council – dedicated to advancing UN global causes through the transformative power of storytelling\, will present an event featuring Palestine’s Oscar submission for Best International Feature Film – PALESTINE 36.  The entire programme will be broadcasted live & on demand on the global channels of the United Nations – UN Web TV and UN YouTube. \nPALESTINE 36 explores the Arab Revolt of 1936–1939 against British colonial rule. Directed by Annemarie Jacir\, the film lays the historical groundwork for what followed in 1948 and beyond\, making the events an urgent story to bring to the screen. This pivotal moment is essential for understanding the Palestinian question\, which has been on the agenda of the United Nations for nearly eight decades.  The film features an extraordinary international cast\, including British Oscar-winner Jeremy Irons (Reversal of Fortune)\, Irish acclaimed Liam Cunningham (Game of Thrones)\, and Palestinian Emmy-nominated Hiam Abbass (Succession).  PALESTINE 36 is Annemarie Jacir’s fourth consecutive film to be selected as Palestine’s Oscar submission for the Best International Feature Film.

SUMMARY:Movie: Ali: Fear Eats The Soul
DESCRIPTION:The wildly prolific German filmmaker Rainer Werner Fassbinder paid homage to his cinematic hero Douglas Sirk with this update of that filmmaker’s 1955 All That Heaven Allows. A lonely widow (Brigitte Mira) meets a much younger Arab worker (El Hedi ben Salem) in a bar during a rainstorm. They fall in love\, to their own surprise—and to the outright shock of their families\, colleagues\, and drinking buddies. In Ali: Fear Eats the Soul\, Fassbinder expertly wields the emotional power of classic Hollywood melodrama to expose the racial tensions underlying contemporary German culture. \n  \n\n\n\n\nSat Nov 29: 4.30pm PDT\, 7.30pm PDT\n\n\nSun Nov 30: 4.30pm PDT\, 7.30pm PDT
