SUMMARY:Mary Ann Peters: myself inside your story
DESCRIPTION:An artist and activist for five decades\, Mary Ann Peters’ drawings\, paintings\, and sculptural installations address the incomplete histories of the Middle East. A second-generation Lebanese American woman\, Peters is simultaneously connected to and distanced from a family homeland known to her through generations of stories\, photographs\, and lived experiences\, as well as her travels abroad\, and – like many of us – from news sources.  As the title of exhibition hints\, Peters makes reference to histories that are not her story but are\, by heritage\, a connection to documented cultural records tied to the Middle East.

SUMMARY:Dunya Productions presents Almonds Blossom in Deir Yassin
DESCRIPTION:A play written and directed by Hanna Eady\nPreview shows October 23 & 24\, 2025\, 7:30 pm\nOpening night Saturday\, October 25\, 2025\, 7:30 pm\nDunya Productions at Cherry Street Village\, 720 25th Ave\, Seattle\, WA 98122\n\nTickets and full details at Dunya Productions: Almonds Blossom in Deir Yassin \nALMONDS BLOSSOM IN DEIR YASSIN is a full-length play about four people with inextricable ties to the historical Palestinian village of Deir Yassin—the site of a massacre of Palestinian men\, women\, and children on April 9\, 1948\, by Zionist paramilitary troops. By 1951\, Israel had established the Kfar Shaul Mental Health Center on the grounds of Deir Yassin. \n\n\n\n\n \n\nThis play delves into the theme of Palestinian collective memory at the location of the massacred Palestinian village Deir Yassin\, now occupied by an Israeli mental institution. \nThrough its surreal narrative\, its characters challenge the silence surrounding historical truths and the preservation of collective memory. \n  \nThu. SUMMARY:SAFF Arab Film Club: Israel Palestine on Swedish TV
DESCRIPTION:When his father dies\, Dib\, his younger brother and their mother move away from their hometown Quneitra to Damascus. The mother’s despotic father reluctantly takes them in and tries to force the mother to remarry. Overwhelmed by the magic of the city\, Dib wants to discover everything and is full of dreams. His daily life is shaped by insults and punishments however. Dib grows up against a backdrop of the political upheavals of the 1950s (the end of the military dictatorship in Syria and the nationalization of the Suez Canal\, Nasser’s taking of power in Cairo\, Egyptian and Syrian unification in 1958) and loses his childish illusions in the face of such violence and brutality. The dreams of the city prove to be a nightmare. Mohammad Malas’ partly autobiographical debut film marked the transition to auteur cinema in Syria. \nAlso showing: \n\nSat Oct 25: 5.30pm PDT\n\n\nSun Oct 26: 1.00pm PDT\, 5.30pm PDT\n\n\nSat Nov 01: 1.00pm PDT\, 5.30pm PDT\n\n\nSun Nov 02: 2.30pm PDT

SUMMARY:Movie: Foragers + Floral Autumnal Wreath Making
DESCRIPTION:Anker + @manetteflowerco with @kitsappalestinesolidarity invite you to watch and discuss Jumana Manna’s film\, FORAGERS. Afterwards\, participants will combine foraged and provided floral to create autumnal wreaths to be taken home. Refreshments provided. \n100% of proceeds will benefit @ele_elna_elak\, a volunteer-driven campaign providing water and food to displaced families across Gaza. The funds go directly to purchasing goods and covering distribution costs on the ground. \nSaturday\, October 25\n1:30 – 5:00\n$100 donation or give what you can \nRSVP link in profile.\nDM if you would like to contribute floral\, photography\, food or volunteer. \nAbout FORAGERS\nFORAGERS depicts the dramas around the practice of foraging for wild edible plants in Palestine/Israel with wry humor and a meditative pace. Shot in the Golan Heights\, the Galilee and Jerusalem\, it moves between fiction\, documentary and archival footage to portray the impact of Israeli nature protection laws on these customs. The restrictions prohibit the collection of the artichoke-like ’akkoub and za’atar (thyme)\, and have resulted in fines and trials for hundreds caught collecting these native plants. For Palestinians\, these laws constitute an ecological veil for legislation that further alienates them from their land while Israeli state representatives insist on their scientific expertise and duty to protect. Following the plants from the wild to the kitchen\, from the chases between the foragers and the nature patrol\, to courtroom defenses\, FORAGERS captures the inherited love\, joy and knowledge in these traditions alongside their resilience to the prohibitive law.

SUMMARY:Fest: Kinan Azmeh
DESCRIPTION:Yaniv Attar Conductor\nKinan Azmeh Clarinet \nStrauss Jr\, Tales from the Vienna Woods\nSchubert\, Symphony No. 2\nJacobsen/Aghaei\, Ascending Bird\nKinan Azmeh\, Suite for Improvisor and Orchestra \nRunning time with intermission — 100 min \n\n\nOpening with a mini-Oktoberfest celebration! We’re serving complimentary locally crafted brews from Camp Colvos and soft pretzels. \n\n\nStep into the Vienna Woods with fluted bird song\, folks tunes and yes\, zither (rare instrument alert!). Zither player Kurt Eckroth joins us for the iconic Ländler country dance tune\, which then whisks us into a whirlwind of 5 glorious waltzes. \n\n\nAscending Bird tells the story of a mythic bird that tries to reach the sun. It tries at first and falls back down. It tries again\, then finally on the third time it receives the radiant embrace of the sun and loses its physical body\, in a metaphor for spiritual transcendence. The music is an arrangement of an old Persian folk tune\, starting gently and working up to a thrilling close. \n\n\nHailed as ‘spellbinding’ (The New Yorker) and ‘intensely soulful’ (The New York Times)\, guest artist and composer Kinan Azmeh brings us his genre-bending Suite for Improvisor and Orchestra. The suite takes us from Love on 139th Street in D\, a vibrant homage to Harlem’s cultural mix\, to November 22nd\, a meditative reflection on finding home far from home\, and concludes with Wedding\, in the spirit of a Syrian village celebration. \n\n\nSeating is at 8-top tables for both concerts\, general admission. Come with friends and make new friends! \n\n\nParking at both Foss Waterway Seaport Museum (Saturday) and Pioneer Park Pavilion (Sunday) is free. \n\n\nConcert sponsored by Concrete Technology Corporation \n
