SUMMARY:"Living" Room by Abdelfattah Abusrour [virtual]
DESCRIPTION:“Living” Room by Abdelfattah Abusrour\nIf these walls could talk…what would they say about the occupation of Palestine? \nIf these walls could talk…This is the experience of a “living” room in the West Bank under occupation. Find a comfortable chair in your own living room\, and press play. \nAbdelfattah Abusrour is founder and director of Alrowwad Cultural and Arts Society\, established in 1998 in Aida refugee camp-Bethlehem. His concept and philosophy “Beautiful Resistance”\, using performing and visual arts\, culture and education\, is a creative and peaceful expression in situations of oppression and trauma to provide possibilities to save lives and inspire hope and build peace within individuals to be peace builders in their communities and beyond. He started working with children\, youth and later adults\, focused also on mothers and women. Mobile Beautiful Resistance program\, using theatre\, dance\, photography\, games library (play bus) touring all over the West Bank-Palestine to train trainers and connect with other Palestinian communities and marginalized areas. Abusrour is an author\, actor\, and theatre director\, with a PhD in Biological and Medical Engineering from France in 1993. In 2005\, he abandoned his career in Biology because he believed in the power of arts and culture as pure humanity where stereotypes vanish and people are on equal grounds. These are the bridges that people can build together as equals to shape a better future for all the generations to come. Abusrour co-wrote the plays Salut c’est nous in 1990\, and Nourrir de faim; in 1993 while studying in France (Co-founder of Paris Nord Théâtre). He has written\, adapted or performed in many plays produced in Palestine\, including Waiting for the Rain\, Staying Alive\, When Old Men Cry\, “6500\,” and others. \nAbusrour says: “We don’t have the luxury of despair\, but a steadfast hope that we can make a change for our children and the generations to come that we can be proud of” and “Miracles don’t happen alone\, we provoke them to happen.” \nThe sound designer for this play is Wisam Aljafari\, and the recording was made in the Alrowwad studios in Aida Camp\, West Bank. \nNamed one of the Top 5 Immersive Companies in NYC by Jonathan Mandell of tdf.org\, This Is Not a Theatre Company creates site-based\, immersive\, multi-sensory\, participatory dance-theatre that can be smelled\, touched\, and tasted as well as seen and heard. This theatre is not something to passively consume\, but to co-create. With each production\, This Is Not a Theatre Company asks the audience to perceive the world in new ways\, to empathize in new ways\, and to practice creativity. SUMMARY:Rajaa Gharbi\, Selected Works: Exhibition by Rajaa Gharbi
DESCRIPTION:VISUAL ART Every Thursday–Saturday\, from November 2–December 2 12–5 pm \nFeaturing original acrylic paintings and prints from several previous solo exhibitions\, artist Rajaa Gharbi‘s exhibition\, Rajaa Gharbi\, Selected Works is largely inspired by a sense of realism and the need for collective\, life-nurturing visions and practices. \nGharbi’s works are never about just one or two themes. Among her earliest and indelible art influences and “training” grounds were her mother’s clothing designs\, her father’s storytelling feats\, her native city’s omnipresent visual worlds of hand-weaving arts\, first centuries BCE monumental representational mosaic “paintings”\, and the vestiges of a bygone Roman Empire. Visual storytelling and ancient scripts have held her focus since childhood. There\, the first waves of infinite geometric designs and limitless color palettes permeated her psyche. Hopping around or staring at the fallen or still standing marble statues of all sizes\, texts hand-engraved on steles\, and very young olive trees cracking life open right through ancient fallen columns in her native Carthage\, Tunisia and across North Africa are still among her sources of inspiration. She is also inhabited and taught by the geographic and human landscapes of the American Northwest.

SUMMARY:Streaming Movies from Aflamuna: Films From Palestine
\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nOUR PICKS FOR NOVEMBER \nAFLAMUNA.online is dedicating the month of November to a compelling selection of films\, each a profound testament to the story of Palestine. \nIn this dedicated program\, we shed a brilliant light on the unwavering struggle and indomitable spirit of the Palestinian people\, unearthing narratives that resound with their strength and perseverance. \nA heartfelt tribute to Palestine\, amplifying Palestinian voices\, adhering to the rights of Palestinians\, honoring Palestinian narratives\, and standing against any attempts to falsify its history and any violation of the rights of its people. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n  \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nكأنّنا عشرون مستحيل \n آن ماري جاسر 17 د. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nLike Twenty Impossibles \n Annemarie Jacir  17 MINS \n  \nOccupied Palestine: When a Palestinian film crew averts a closed checkpoint by taking a remote side road\, the political landscape unravels\, and the passengers are slowly taken apart by the mundane brutality of military occupation. SUMMARY:Rising in Solidarity: Palestine and the Arab Revolution: Panel of Speakers
DESCRIPTION:Hundreds of thousands of people have demonstrated globally in outrage at Israel’s genocidal bombardment of Gaza. In the Middle East in particular\, protests have been massive\, faced state repression\, and evoked memories of the Arab Spring revolutions. In Egypt\, for example\, protestors marched to Tahrir Square for the first time since 2013. In Jordan\, protestors faced regime and security forces preventing them from reaching the border to show solidarity with Palestinians. \nThe liberation of Palestine has long resonated throughout the Middle East and North African region. This connection is deeper than just sympathy: the settler-colonial project of Israel\, its backing by US imperialism\, and the complicity of the Arab regimes with Zionism reflect on the oppression of the people of the region more broadly. Because of this\, one of the long-held slogans of the Palestinian left has been that the road to Jerusalem flows through Cairo\, Damascus\, and Amman\, that Palestinian liberation will have to be achieved through regional revolt and revolution. This panel of revolutionaries from around the region will talk about the inextricable ties between Palestinian liberation and liberation across the region\, and its special relevance in this crucial historic moment. \n***Register through Ticket Tailor to receive a link to the live-streamed video on the day of the event. This event will also be recorded and captioning will be provided.*** \nSpeakers: \nHossam el-Hamalawy is an Egyptian journalist and scholar-activist\, currently based in Germany. He’s also a member of the Egyptian Revolutionary Socialists\, and was among the organizers of the 2011 uprising in Egypt. \nSoheir Asaad is a Palestinian feminist and political organizer and a human rights advocate. She received a Master’s degree in international human rights law from the University of Notre Dame (US). Soheir is the advocacy team member of Rawa\, for liberatory\, resilient Palestinian community work. She is also the co-director of the “Funding Freedom” project. Previously\, Soheir worked in legal researcher and international advocacy in Palestinian and regional human rights organizations.\n \nDr. Banah Ghadbian (they/them) holds a Phd in Ethnic Studies from the University of California\, San Diego. Their PhD dissertation\, “Ululating from the Underground: Syrian Women’s Protests\, Performances\, and Pedagogies” looked at the ways women and children in Syria utilize theatre\, protest\, graffiti\, and freedom school spaces in the Syrian Revolution. Dr. G has taught using theatre and social justice curricula at the Syrian Women’s Association in Amman\, Jordan and with displaced Syrian and Palestinian youth in the Arab Youth Collective of San Diego\, among many other places. Dr. G holds a masters in Ethnic Studies and a BA in in Comparative Women’s Studies and Sociology. Banah is an Assistant Professor of Comparative Women’s Studies at Spelman College where they also serve as faculty advisor for the Students for Justice in Palestine. Banah is a member of Palestinian Feminist Collective. \n——————————————————————— \nThis event is sponsored by Haymarket Books and is part of Until Liberation: A Series for Palestine by Haymarket Books cosponsored by Palestinian American Organizations Network\, Mondoweiss\, Spectre\, Dissenters\, Tempest\, Palestine Deep Dive\, The New Arab\, and more. While all of our events are freely available\, we ask that those who are able make a solidarity donation in support of our important publishing and programming work. SUMMARY:Showbox Presents: Good People Live: Majid Jordan with Alex Lustig [Portland]
DESCRIPTION:At the start of their music journey\, singer Majid Al-Maskati and producer Jordan Ullman united their talents to form a partnership that is now globally known as Majid Jordan. The R&B duo blessed dance aficionados everywhere following the release of their debut EP Afterhours\, catching the attention of Noah “40” Shebiband and signing to OVO Sound. From working with Drake to co-producing and writing the 2013 6x-platinum smash hit “Hold On We’re Going Home\,” and a number of successful hits\, Majid Jordan have continuously evolved their sound over the years to create a subgenre that is uniquely their own. Majid Jordan also appeared as fictional popstars\, the Halal Brothers\, in season 3 of Hulu’s critically acclaimed series\, Ramy. Gearing up for their highly-anticipated return\, the boys are back and ready to explode onto the music scene. It’s been a decade since their first work Afterhours was produced\, and this new music aims to pay homage to the beginning of their musical journey\, when they originally went by the name “Good People.” Reminiscence is a prominent theme in their most recent development as they aim to remain true to their origins\, while they continue to create music that feels and sounds good.
