SUMMARY:Postponed: Cadence Video Poetry Youth Camp - NWFF
DESCRIPTION:Sliding scale\nWe are adapting our plan for this camp due to coronavirus.\nIf you’re interested in participating\, regardless of ability to attend in person\, please fill out our interest form below! \nDuration: 13h 30m\nInstructor: Hanan Diriye\n\n\n\nIn this interactive camp\, students will be introduced to the genre of video poetry and collaborate in groups to create a video poem of their own. Students will engage with poetry playfully\, through poetry games (exquisite corpse)\, video collage (through found footage)\, and soundscape. Fun\, explorative\, and experimental\, this camp will help students understand the many ways poetry can be experienced off the page\, offering tools and resources to bring creative visions to life. Using NWFF cameras and Adobe Premiere\, students will create and edit their own video poems to share with friends\, family\, and festival audiences at April 17 showcase of the 2020 Cadence: Video Poetry Festival. \nAll equipment and software is provided. Students are welcome to bring their own tech\, art\, and writing to work with as well. \nWe allow for drop-off and pickup within 30 minutes of the start and end time of each program. \nWe will provide snacks and drinks. Students are encouraged to bring a water bottle. Please let us know if you have dietary restrictions by emailing jonah@nwfilmforum.org after registering. \nAll equipment and software is provided. Students are welcome to bring their own tech\, art\, and writing to work with as well. \nEach camper must have a medical and liability release form\, which will be sent to you following registration. \n\n\n\n\nHanan Diriye\nPronouns : she/her/hers\nfilmmaker\, poet\, artist \n\n\nHanan Hassan is a poet\, organizer\, and interdisciplinary creative residing in Seattle by way of Richardson\, Texas. She is currently an Assistant Education Programmer at the Northwest Film Forum. Her work is rooted in her experiences and upbringing as Somali diaspora. Hanan’s film work has earned recognition in 3+ festivals and her poetry was recently featured in the Summer 2019 issue of Hargeisa Literary Magazine \, a publication of the Republic of Somaliland. In her free time she enjoys creating art\, cooking and brainstorming comedy skits. She is currently working on a poetry documentary through the PNW Afro X Research Fellowship and is compiling her first poetry book Desert Flower Bloom.

DESCRIPTION:In this class Nadia Tommalieh will teach you how to make pita sandwiches that will have you convinced you’ve traveled to the Middle East to eat them. You’ll learn about the history of the region as she shows you how to get the perfect puff on your homemade pita\, and how to achieve flavorful\, crispy\, falafel every time. Also on the menu is maqali\, a lesser known\, but incredibly delicious pita sandwich stuffed with fried eggplant\, potatoes\, cauliflower\, and tatbeleh (jalapeno lemon sauce).
