Announcing a benefit for the Palestine Children’s Relief Fund

 

In this time of horror, we watch Israel commit atrocities day after day, seemingly without end, against an entire society in Gaza. It is a dreadful feeling, to feel powerless to do anything about this new Nakba.

 

Here’s one thing we will do: raise funds for humanitarian relief for the children of Gaza.

 

The Palestine Children’s Relief Fund is a highly recommended humanitarian organization that is focusing specifically on the plight of Gazan children. It is well-known to those of us who are active regarding Palestine solidarity. You can look them up here.

 

We are holding a benefit concert to contribute to this fund:

ADVANCE RESERVATIONS NECESSARY

 

Music will be performed by the House of Tarab, a Seattle-based, Arabic music ensemble that performs classic and traditional material from the golden era of Egyptian music. The group also performs music of the Levant (Jordan, Lebanon, Syria, and Palestine), and the greater Middle East.

 

“Tarab” is an Arabic word that describes a state of emotional transformation and bliss when one is wholly absorbed in music. Musicians: Stephen Elaimy on oud, David McGrath on ney, Jane Hall on percussion.

 

RESERVATIONS: Café Paloma is a small place with only about a 35-seat capacity. You must call in and reserve a seat: 206 405 1920.

 

IT’S A BENEFIT, SO EXPECT TO SPEND MONEY: We’re sorry, but this event is not for the broke. The House of Tarab has generously decided to donate their share of the admission charge to the Palestine Children’s Relief Fund—and we will pass the hat in the course of the evening. And, of course, you’ll want to dine on the excellent fare offered by Café Paloma. (Note: if you can pay the admission charge with cash, that helps out the restaurant.)

 

There will be a Palestinian speaker from the Seattle branch of the solidarity organization Samidoun on hand to talk briefly about what is going on in Gaza.
