Oud: A Musical History with Stephen Elaimy and Jane Hall

Folio welcomes Stephen Elaimy (oud) and Jane Hall (darabuka & riqq) of the Arabic Music Ensemble House of Tarab for an immersive musical journey through the history of the oud. Known as the “king of instruments” across the Middle East and North Africa, this ancient, fretless lute is celebrated for its deep, resonant tone and its unique ability to produce the subtle microtonal inflections central to Arabic music. Accompanied by traditional percussion, the duo will bring the instrument’s sweeping history to life, tracing its path from ancient Mesopotamia and the golden age of Egyptian film to the melodic traditions of the Levant and its surprising influence on modern Western scores.
