📆📍Shoes for Sidra – Saturday, October 5 at 10:30 am, Maritime Heritage Park
Shoe donation drop site: Downtown @thirdplanetboutique and Fairhaven @cafebluefairhaven
Shoes For Sidra is a community art installation dedicated to Sidra Hassouna, a 7-year-old Palestinian girl, who was killed in an Israeli airstrike that tore off both her legs and left her body hanging from a destroyed house. Sidra is but one of the countless children who have been killed by the U.S.-funded Israeli genocide.
We signify our grief and solidarity with a simple act of laying out shoes—as many as we can gather—to try to convey the loss and unimaginable scale of the injustice. We invite passersby to contribute a pair of shoes, and write the name of a person that has been stolen from us. We invite you to walk the labyrinth and connect with any feelings that arise.
Sidra left this earth without legs and feet. She and many children like her no longer need shoes. We as a global community have failed to protect them, and it is our responsibility to share their stories and honor their lives.
Shoes for Sidra is an all-ages event with speakers and kid-appropriate programming. This event is inspired and supported by @families4ceasefiresea – we are humbled by the regional network of grassroots pro-Palestinian organizations that continues to strengthen.
